What, exactly, is the benefit of having an artifact weapon?
« on: August 17, 2011, 06:08:56 pm »

I ask because I got a Brass Spear recently. I know from testing that Brass isn't too bad a material for slashing weapons, but I want to know what an artifact does, other than being more valuable. Sharper? Better chance to hit?

Higher chance to hit for weapons, higher chance to block for armor. Definitely useful, but it won't turn a poor material into a good one.

They're worth a lot more than standard items and are also more useful. Bit of a pity that it's brass though.
It's not too bad. I've used it in-game, and done arena testing.

Brass should be at least comparable to copper. So a brass spear is actually usable.

I had a related question,  recently my mayor( who
Loves his lay pewter ) got a weaponsmith fey mood and
Made a lovely lay pewter warhammer. My question is
How good I lay pewter in other people's opinion?
From the minute amount of testing in the arena I've done
It seemed equivalent to bronze (both of which have
similar solid densities in the raws iirc)
Also first post long time Lurker  :D

Lay pewter makes for a fine blunt weapon.

Awesomer, cooler, to-hit/damage bonus greater than those of masterworks, bling, can be made of normally-impossible materials, sweetness, makes flavorful sense to give your best warrior your best artifact, looks incredibly awesome, etc. Did I mention that artifacts are awesome?

Yes, and you should be glad it wasn't an edged weapon.

Didn't someone post they got a possession that made a native gold short sword once?  Talk about a face-palm moment ...
