Lets play Shiloh: On a tabletop with paper!
« on: August 17, 2011, 04:16:13 pm »

So, I decided recently to follow the 6th Mississippi in the Confederate army and play little tabletop battles with paper(Or figures if I can find some reasonably priced ones!... eventually).

First we are in General Cleburns 2nd Brigade, Army of the Mississippi. We are fighting around Shiloh Church in the western theatre of the American Civil War.
We have 6 regiments to the Unions 3, however theirs are generally more numerous per regiment. We also have two artillery batteries. The Union troops are part of William Tecumseh Sherman's troops defending around Shiloh church.

This is the first battle! I am using rules I have lying around, and will report on the actions with pics and scribblings!

I am playing whatever no one else takes. I have a friend who will give orders to the 6th Mississippi and another for the 15th Arkansas infantry. The rest can be taken by anyone here!! The rules are very workable by forum due to the orders being taken as general actions rather than 'move 5 paces'.
I.E. 6th Mississippi: Advance to a run and charge the union federal scum to our front.

Army of the mississipi
Third Army Corps[Hardee]
 2nd Brigade[Cleburne]
    15th Arkansas: Ltc Archibald K. Patton (k) 506 men*
    6th Mississippi: Col John J. Thornton (w), Cpt W. A. Harper 425 men*
2nd [Bate's] Tennessee: Col William B. Bate (w), Ltc David L. Goodall 385 men (MonkeyHead)
    5th [35th] Tennessee: Col Benjamin J. Hill 550 men
23rd Tennessee: Ltc James F. Neill (w) 570 men (Azkul)*
24th Tennessee: Ltc Thomas H. Peebles 406 men
Arkansas Battery: Cpt John T. Trigg (areyoua)*
Arkansas Battery: Cpt J. H. Calvert

Army of the Tennessee
Fifth Division[Sherman]
 1st Brigade[McDowell]
6th Iowa: Cpt John W. Williams (w), Cpt Madison Miner Walden 260 men
46th Ohio: Col Thomas Worthington 701 men
    40th Illinois: Col Stephen G. Hicks (w), Ltc J. M. Boothe 600 men
6th Indiana Battery: Cpt Frederick Behr (k)

The troop numbers and commanders are faithfully researched by myself, the 'map' will be around Shiloh church(a representation not full scale map).
A * means someone has taken this group!

You can take command of a regiment or simply lurk, either is fine :D If you take one, your goal is to have your regiment be glorified in battle, if you die you score 0 points. Because you are dead.

Note: I'm setting up the map at the weekend, the regiment counters ive used flags with the regiment name on them.

You need to know front from back and how to yell CHARGE at your laptop/pc.

I will take command of the 23rd Tennessee, then.

Just a thought but shouldn't you have people give orders in secret? A big part of Civil War battles was not knowing exactly where the enemy was massing forces or how many there were.

I think we in this forum are supposed to be picking from the confederate side, so it shouldn't be too much of a problem.

I'll make this rule, If no one takes a Union leader - I will have the orders in here, if someone does then I will get orders pmed so the realism is maintained.
Orders will be given in here, in BOLD and in size 14 lettering so I dont miss them.

You cannot be the Union. Period. I may do a Union campaign after!
