Ok, I've gotten hold of copies of both Shaolin Soccer (the 100min HK version, not the 88min Tarantino re-edit) and The Good, The Bad and the Weird. Also, it kinda goes without saying that these are all subtitled, not dubbed. Dubbing is a tool of the Devil.

Main holdups now are my lack of a working microphone at the moment (should be remedied soon) and a good time for me to burn a couple of hours. That problem should be remedied within about two weeks when I'll have all day Thursdays and Fridays to myself at home.

Heh...watched all of Shaolin Soccer last night and the first 20 minutes or so of GB&W. The subtitles are amusingly mangled, but not so much that people won't be able to get the gist of it. Shaolin Soccer is the worse of the two in that regard.

Bump to let people know I haven't forgotten this. I'm actually hoping to do this sometime during the day on Thursday and/or Friday this week, still need to score a microphone.

Tentative start time is 2pm EST/11am PST/7pm London time/4am in Sydney/sometime in the middle of the night for Japa, etc.

I know that's not a great time for a lot of people other than the UK contingent, so I'll look into the possibility of doing something Wednesday or Thursday night, circa 9pm EST. Main obstacle there is just getting the kids to bed and out of the way (so that we don't have "Daddy, why is the man in a yellow dress with a unibrow fighting a giant tongue?" :P)

Oh, which reminds me...along with the wuxia films I'm digging up for this, I'm also thinking of doing some supernatural/horror HK classics like Mr. Vampire, Chinese Ghost Story, and Encounters of the Spooky Kind. If you've never seen a jiangshi (hopping vampire) movie, it's....well, it's almost as though they were created specifically for MST3K-style mocking.

Bah. Well, due to circumstances beyond my control, the Livestream will be postponed until tomorrow afternoon/evening.

The good news is that the wife and kids are heading out of town for Labor Day, so I can start at a decent hour for the US folks. Plan is to do a double-feature of The Good, the Bad and the Weird followed by Shaolin Soccer. I'm trying to plan these out in sets of two that are thematically linked, so this one is "Oddball Action-Comedies".

Next sets will hopefully be:
"Epic fights made of WIN" (Iron Monkey/The Protector)
"All Wong Fei Hung, all the time" (Once Upon a Time in China/Drunken Master)
"Our Vampires and Ghosts are Different" (Chinese Ghost Story/Mr. Vampire)

Fortunate, for me at least. Pretty sure I would've missed it had it been tonight. Now reminded, I'll remember to not forget about it tomorrow.

We're on. I still may not have a microphone, but I can still show the films and if unable to procure a device for the recording and transmission of my voice by 7pm tonight, I'll just type in chat.

On the slate for tonight's viewing:

"Those Wacky Koreans/Chinese"
(All times are in Eastern Daylight Savings Time, aka GMT -4)

7pm to about 9:30pm: The Good, the Bad and the Weird.

Intermission (abt 5-10 min)

9:45pm to 11:30ish: Shaolin Soccer.

I'll edit to post the link when it closer to showtime.

Updated the OP with the link. I have a mic but the gain on it is terrible, so I nearly have to yell for it to pick up. So spoken commentary will be sparse.

Okay, 1st half is done. Korean Western is Best Western!
Also, we learned that Mickey Mouse likes to lace things with roofies and then stab people in the ass. xD

Shaolin Soccer up in 30mins!

The ass-stabbing.

It was very painful to watch. :-[
