Masterwork iron vs basic steel armor and weapons.
« on: August 16, 2011, 07:30:46 am »

In general, would masterwork iron be better or worse than basic steel?

How many 'steps' down would I have to go until masterwork is less effective than basic steel? Iron, bronze?

I'd -guess- steel is better, except for shields and blunt weapons.

I know silver is the best for blunt weapons but I didn't know shields were a special example also. What's better for shields?

Copper. I dont know if iron is better then steel for blunt weapons and shields , however masterwork iron should beat basic steel without any problem.

I'm fairly sure that the material of a shield doesn't matter.

It does for shieldbashes.

Also, iron has the same density as steel.

Masterworks get a x2 chance to block or hit.
so yes, a basic steel item will not be as good as iron masterwork because the iron masterwork would hit and block more, even if each is less effective.
now a steel masterwork item... -drools-

I prefer my cotton candy swords, thank you.

Okay, the new nicknames for stuff from Hell makes no sense.
I don't think Clowns are a good representative of fun.
Cotton candy is tasty, but not fun.
Clown-cars are not fun to ride in.
Basically, ALL of the names given to that stuff doesn't even REMOTELY resemble 'fun' to me.

Now, if Clowns were instead renamed 'Demons that are going to eat all of your dwarves, no matter how hard you fight,'
And Cotton Candy was renamed 'That crap you like to make swords out of so you can slice the heads off of the goblinz,'
And Clown-Cars were renamed 'Certain death' then those would all resemble good, Dwarven, fun.

Now that I'm done with my rant, yes. Yes, Artifact Iron IS better than Steel, for the above-mentioned reasons. Simply based off of the fact that you could, theoretically, double all of the damage + defense that the Sword/shield could do.

I would take the steel any day. Goblins with iron weapons, humans with bronze, or modded stuff with better will tear up iron armour easily. Even if you are more likely to deflect a blow, you are also infinitely more likely to be killed by one that ghosts through your armour like it's Scooby Doo.

On a similar note (I don't mean to intrude, and if I am I'll make a separate thread), is an iron scourge better than a silver whip?  I've decided to make some dwarf lashers using left over goblinite.

It took me a bit to figure it out, including a wikipedia.
That's how freakin' random it is.

Because it wasn't clear from context. Everyone is ofcourse playing a mod in which you can make razor sharp everything out of actual spun sugar. Clearly.  ::)

I have a brand spanking new account here, I've never encountered either clowns or cotton candy but I knew what was meant.
