I saw the part where you mentioned black cats and cryptic clues, but that's not really a cost effective way to gain echoes, even at that level.

Though getting free rides there through opportunity cards at a low level, I totally spend 20 turns collecting those things

At my skill it's the best way outside of searching for curios to get money.

The tipping points seems to be around... 30? 35? Somewhere around there. If all you want is money, it's one of the better opportunities before then, that much I'll admit. Your earnings seem to be roughly on par with your level, in pence, +-5.

My Shadowy is just over 31 now, Straightforward for catching black cats, and yeah, I only use that for money grinding, it could be ok for getting Appalling secrets in future as well, assuming a better opportunity doesn't come up.

Don't forget that it's risk free money as well.

Isn't it luck based, though, meaning never more than equal odds? That means your only averaging 20pence a search, and thats not really that good.

The luck based challenges have all sorts of different required luck. There's 50/50, and some that are 'It's sure, or is it?' (90%, I think). There's a few others, too.

This one is "A matter of luck, it could go either way" But I've had a pretty good success rate, and I only really use it if I'm grinding echoes so it doesn't matter if I waste a few turns.

Yeah, I know it varies, but MoM is right, that one was, from the looks of it, 50/50. And my experience has been about that level as well, really. It was a really nice boon when I was lower level, though.

On another note, I REALLY don't want to finish my ambition now. I feel like I'll lose my item at some point, and I LIKE having a +5 to my dangerous!

I have bad luck with games, so I'll avoid that one. All RNGs so far that I've met have hated me, without fail.

I went insane again today after getting free of the state of some confusion.

But it was worth it, I unlocked the new Route for free on my last action before insanity, and got down to three insane before I ran out. It's easy once you learn which cards are nice, and which get you closer to Mister whatisname to pay fate to keep your dreams.

Also I'm about to get new lodgings, and am wondering whether to get the Heron Tower (dangerous 30) or the High Castle (shadowy 30). Does the choice affect the game much later on?

At this point, I don't believe so, no. It used to be you'd only be able to have one residence at a time and you'd move from location to location. Now, with the lodging keys, you can live wherever you want as long as you've purchased the key in the past. So eventually you could have all the homes.
