A person of particular skills can, with enough diligence and caution, acquire such things while perusing the belongings of residents of Spite. I think the individual whose pockets you want to politely check might even be Smiling Jack.

 My sincerest thanks, dear friend.
After some time spent searching through the bags and pouches of a number of forgetful citizens, Jack himself included, i have found more than enough rubies to satisfy my curiosity. If there is any way I could repay you?

I do find myself sometimes needing, preposterously, someone to vouch for my character and conduct on specific nights to the Constabulary, d__n them. I'd consider such a service more than adequate repayment.

I recently received a visit from an old friend of mine, a barrister of some importance. You can only imagine how happy I was to walk with her through Watchmaker Hill, a place I have come almost to call home. But it was with great dismay that i was forced to decline her request for a tour of Veilgarden. Perhaps at a later date, when i am better allied to the locals.

I awoke today to a surprising and delightful amount of candles. A feast of opportunity for all the residents of Fallen London?

My dear friends,
I remember reading some time ago about the elusive venom ruby. Now, whilst I would be the first to admit that I am not a person of any importance, i would like to ask where I could acquire such an item.
 Regards, sjm9876

If your fingers are itchy, take a stroll through the Pickpocket's Promenade in Spite. If you get extremely lucky, you can collect a few shinies.

If your wallet is feeling itchy, you can spend a small about of NEX on the Shroom Hopping opportunity card to compete. You win, you get rubies.

Mr. Fires' surprising and uncharacteristic generosity has been quite welcome; I do find these longer candles it's offered of late quite delightful.

I had found in the post a ill-wrapped package containing some noisome beast or another, but the kind soul who normally disposes of these things for me has made herself rather scarce of late. Might someone here have want of this unpleasant parcel, or any other that might come my way?

I would be most grateful to take said package off your hands and any others you come across. If you need anything in return please just let me know and if I am able to accommodate you I will.

Theodolus

Well, the box I had set aside was probably lost during the slight misunderstanding I had last evening with an uncouth group of ruffians dressed in blue, but when I'm at liberty to do so I'll be sure to forward any further packages of a like character that might find their way to me.

Is the light at the end of the tunnel for My Green Companion really worth it? I've probably spent close to 1000 Foxfires and 2000 Rats on this stupid thing, only to find out it now requires competition with other players? Ugh. What a waste of time and resources.

To be honest I find the plant game to be rather boring. It's expensive too. But once you get high enough in levels to just be grinding stuff you end up with so much extra cash on hand. I do almost all the attending cards simply because they aren't that expensive to me. Even losing 9 lucky weasels is just a drop in the bucket, despite it not giving me much. I don't know what level you are, but for reference I've been grinding to try to find a skull for an expedition and so far I've obtained over 8600 whispered secrets. Also, I just noticed that somehow I've ended up with almost 15000 Rostygold. I do remember the lower levels though; always feeling as though you just can't ever get enough money to do anything. Still, if you ever need social actions you can feel free to send your invitations to Theodolus.

It's not that I lack the resources (although that d__nable plant has run me low on those two things in particular.) It's just....I hate storylets that feel like a bait and switch. I've been managing this Horticultural Blowhard for over, what, two months now? To find out it's just part 1 in a 4 part series of absurdity is annoying. It's not even that I have to grind, it's just that I have to compete with other players, possibly lose Attending the Needs of a Singular Plant value. I hate going backwards, but I can live with it as long as there's a reliable grind to repair the damage. Except with this plant, there isn't.

Oh, I see now. Yes, I would agree with you on that. Irritatingly enough I challenged a number of fellow horticulturalists to battle and won my first few (after grinding up the attending stat for a good long while) but I haven't been able to progress past level 3 or something like that. Lost at least one full level in my 3 or so losses. So I've stopped challenging and am just grinding the stat up for the time being. I figure in a year or two I might actually bother with challenging people again, if I'm still playing at least.

Huh. I've never run across that particular storylet before. I sometimes wonder if my getting in to the game at such an early point (something like 3 or 4 years ago) has caused me to miss out on a bunch of cool lower level stuff that has been added since then.
