Also, I have *fucking finally* become a Scholar of the Correspondence.

Is the route to that just doing lots and lots of expeditions? I've done some small research on the subject, and most descriptions were cursory and vague. And when I've given in and explicitly rooted around on the wikis for direct answers, I end up finding "no longer in the game" pages standing between me and my goal.

(My own recent accomplishment of note was making Author. I thought getting up to 25 Bohemian rep would be the miserable part, but I did that in less than a day... and then spent the next couple of days waiting (i.e., emptying my hand every 1-3 waking hours) for the normally-omnipresent-and-unwanted Demimonde card to grace me with its presence once more, grr...)

Yes.  Forgotten quarter, do expiditions to get archeology up to 3, so you can do the tomb of the seven expidition.  You get the correspondence stones from that, and it's a one action storylet to get the scholar quality after that. 

And I too waited for-fucking-ever to get that demi-monde card, but only for journalist.  I have all the reqs for author, but now I need to wait for that card to come up again

Also, screw these cards that show up when you have an eyeless skull >_<

My Dearest Somina,

Although I realize you were likely not the original sender of the boxes you sent me I was most dismayed when I opened the last box and was met by the chittering of a sorrow spider. The damned thing nearly had one of my eyes before I was able to eject it from my premises. Thankfully the previous two boxes were occupied by cats of appreciable nature who divulged a few rather appalling secrets. Sadly, none of the cats were of the disposition to remain at my lodgings. Please do continue to send these delightful boxes as you find them.

I am saddened to hear that none of the boxes contained that which you seek.  Presently, I am unable to send any more as I have decided to take a small vacation to the tomb colonies.  Do not concern yourself with any rumours you may have heard about me; they are false and engineered for the titillation of petty social types.  Upon my return to Benthic University, I shall continue to maintain my watch for any odd packages that emit suspicious noises and forward the d--n things accordingly.

D----t! Trying to manage my Nightmares I decided to try the Mirrors at Mrs. Plenty's. Now I'm in a state of some confusion! Will I truly lose all my Dreams progress once I leave here? I'm literally kicking myself in the posterior.

You won't lose all of it, just a big chunk. It's a shame, because if it weren't for that, I would probably enjoy insanity.

Yeah, letting any of the other menaces get too high is no big deal outside of just wasted time.  Nightmares is the one that will bite your progress in the ass.

Scandal/wounds are no big deal, although you can get a quality if you play chess against the boatman.

Suspicion will let you draw a card to get another acquaintance, and a mini-storylet. 

I've almost finished the University storyline now; just waiting for the story with the frame and the forger to conclude.  Currently pissing around in the Flit.  This place burns so many actions to do much that's worthwhile

Well, for me Wounds are actually more problematic - that's because I'm a participant in certain activity that should not be mentioned, and getting killed actually means an end of participating in this particular activity. Which shall remained unnamed. Dream qualities are somewhat irritating to get, but if I'm not mistaken, the Mirror Marshes are less harmful to them, aren't they? I have yet to reach the Scandal levels required for any problems (my Persuasive seems to rise all on it's own, even when I actively try to keep it my lowest stat, and I rarely have an opportunity to gain much Scandal), but Suspicion is really harmless actually, that I have to agree. Although I see it as a stain on my honor to be thrown into jail, that is a minor problem compared to troubles with reducing Suspicion otherwise, so I sometimes visit New Newgate Prison.

Wounds is awful if you have low watchful, because it takes forever to get out and there's no real benefit. Scandal is nearly as bad - really boring, but at least it's a bit faster than wounds. Suspicion is just a field trip, and Nightmares can be really fun, depending on where you end up, though of course the blow to your dreams progress is a bit of a pain.

Indeed! She'd sought some other jewels as well, but those seem to fall into one's pockets from a clear black sky with only the slightest of efforts. The scarcity of the remaining variety, though, is enough to make the most even-tempered of beings positively venomous...
