Yeah, your prison stuff is useless. Sell it.
Don't bother selling the goods you get until you have enough to sell to gain a new item. That said, you can sell pretty much everything that you get at this stage without any real consequence. Some things its not very smart to sell since you will need them in the future and they become hard to get, but the vast majority of goods can be sold.
You also only have a single lodging available to you for a while (although two ways to get it), just get it by whatever means as soon as possible.
Your immediate goal is to get your stats as high as possible (and to test out any of the neat storylines that you have access to that will dissapear once you get your stats above a certain point), to that goal only do high-risk or impossible challenges, since they raise your stats the fastest . You will get less goods, but the quantity you get now is pretty pitiable, and investing your actions into getting more is more stat points is more important, early on its a no brainer to chose the high-risk, but after you get to a point where failure raises your menaces (eg. +55 before the -20 from items) it becomes much less so.
Where the fuck is a good source of Luminosity items? I'm so close to being a person of some importance I can taste it, but this shit is just too expensive to buy. Anywhere know where I can get some?
It's kind of sad I'm in the 110-120 range with all stats and still haven't managed to become such a person...
Also, I'm at the final state of the University Storyline - I kind of want a department, but I also think the Provost is a dick. What should do!?
The optimal thing to do is grind your shadowy+watchful/persuasive up to 125, then get the items from wilmonts end. It will take a long time in to get them there, but that is the easiest way to get the items (it might be a bit sub-optimal, depending on how many item conversions you need to do to get the components for the part, or it might just barley be the optimal way to get the items). In addition to which you will want your stats to be up at 125 eventually anyways, so you will just be doing the stat grinding a bit earlier then you would otherwise.
I can't think of a way to get Luminosity items in mass before you become a person of some importance however.
So far I haven't really seen anything at all to do at the university with your department thing, and no stories resulting from it. The big things are 1) that your choice effects your connected masters stat, which is a super big thing. 2) You can't get collated research optimally anymore if you tell the truth (you have to use a portfolio of souls +25 echos of goods for 10, compared with just 25 echos worth of goods regularly), however the effects of #2 can (eventually) be negated.
Correct. Ditch it.
Though its helpful if you ever feel the need to return to prison. There's quite a bit to do there, after all.
Meh, if you ever need to return to prison its very cheap (once you get your stats to a certain point at least) to buy another set of clothes to help your suspicion, and returning isn't really a priority at any point either.
Also, I finally got my room at the Royal Bethlehem just before setting out for a Zee trip to Polytherim, for a cost of 50 Antique Mysteries (taking up just about 500 actions to get).
