How long until the next scenario?? It sounds awesome :D Can't wait!!
I am afraid it will be a while before I even finish the 1997 and Soviet-Iraq Pact Scenarios. Sadly each one is vital on editing the actual manpower levels. I can edit troop deployments, such as moving 50,000 India troops to Mexico; however that does not provide India with more troops and therefore doesn't make them a Great Power which is vital to the 1997 Scenario. It just means 50,000 troops less to defend India. The only way to make India a permanent Great Power is by figuring out how to edit the file named "country"... and that files is the largest and most hardest to mess with. Also have to figure how to fix France's isolationist attitude which causes them not to to join a WTA or even lead their own WTA.

I don't know if it is right to remove France as the game's secret villain.

Actually my main motivation for "fixing" France is to make the Post-World War III Scenario more of a challenge. So far India will be the leader of the Nationalist WTA. However my intention with France is not to get them to join my team but to get them to lead the Democratic Socialist Alliance. (Yes, I am making France's ideology Socialist in the 1997 Scenario. Mexico will likely be added to France's team so that France has a military presence right at the USA's doorstep.

I also decided to make Turkey "Nationalist" to represent their shift from NATO now that the USSR is beaten; this also enables the player to renew the Greek-Turkish dispute over Cyprus.

Not at the moment. I figured out how to change several spending levels... unfortunately they automatically revert to the way they were before at the start of the new year. Decided to take a break at the moment before I try to figure out how to make my changes actually stick. I did discover how to successfully edit the nuclear weapons levels so India will have World Reach in the 1997 Scenario while the US-Occupied USSR is reduced to Regional. It is useless to set the United States to a lower nuclear weapons level; the US can still fire nukes worldwide even if their nuclear weapons level is "none". Guess this only affects AI behavior. I actually have one idea to create a new scenario in which every single country has Nuclear World Reach. This should make for a very interesting game; it may be prudent to assist Somalia in fighting Ethiopia lest Somalia revenge nuke Ethiopia which in turn would trigger a Soviet nuclear strike. And lets not forget that if a nuclear power is hit with fallout, they will nuke the one responsible.

Okay, sounds like it will be quite an interesting scenario :D One that really caught my eye is this one...

A new scenario is currently in the works in which Gorbachev was overthrown earlier and the USSR has "Re-Stalinized". The new Soviet leader, General Vladimir Soshkin, has signed an alliance accord with Saddam Hussein. Syria, Yemen, and Libya joins in the new alliance. Iran is under Iraqi control but they still have their military to help back Iraq up. The Soviet Union has more troops stationed in the Middle East. With Iraq on the Soviet WTA, the Persian Gulf Crisis will likely be totally different. Protesting Iraqi aggression to the UN is a big waste of time as the Soviets will veto. A surgical strike would be virtually suicidal as it could provoke Soviet military or even nuclear action. Operation Desert Storm will most likely lead to the Third World War. The Scenario is nearly complete. The only reason I haven't posted is because I am trying to find a way to increase Soviet manpower plus remove the Sino-Soviet Split so China is on the Soviet WTA.

Yep. Just taking a break. I am nearly done with the Iraq-Soviet Alliance Scenario as well as the modified 1997 Post-World War III(non-nuclear) Scenario. The biggest problem with the Iraqi-Soviet one is to get China to join and stay on the Soviet WTA as well as increase Soviet manpower. The problem with the 1997 one is figuring out how to get France to lead its own WTA (Socialist) as well as increase India manpower.

If I were you, I'd have only used 10-20 nukes on North Korea, that way you would have more then enough to hit the Soviet Union should they nuke you in retaliation.

Re: Let's play Shadow President! Korean Conflict Scenarios are ready!
« Reply #1527 on: November 12, 2012, 11:39:46 pm »

I have completed and uploaded both scenarios for the Second Korean War: http://filesmelt.com/dl/Korean_Conflict_Scenarios.7z

The first scenario is set on June 1, 1990. While it is virtually identical to the original Shadow President scenario, it has been modified to include the Korean Conflict set to occur one in-game week after start. At that time, North Korea will invade South Korea. The player, as the United States, gets to decide whether or not to back South Korea. If the player chooses to stay neutral, a long drawn out war will devastate the Korean Peninsula, over a million people will die, and South Korea will fall. The player could even be sadistic and back North Korea...though expect very swift impeachment to occur. The best choice is for the American player to back its ally and help them fight off the invasion. It is highly ADVISABLE that the player restricts the fighting solely to the defense of South Korea and DOES NOT invade North Korea itself. The Soviet Union will defend North Korea and the conflict would upgrade to World War III. Surgical striking North Korea is also a bad idea--it could provoke the Soviets to launch a total nuclear strike on the United States. Sometimes South Korea might decide to counterattack by invading North Korea--you must not let them as that also would provoke Soviet military action and World War III. Go to the Crisis Room and issue a "US Protest". Since South Korea is on the United States WTA, they should easily back down.

The second scenario is set on June 1, 1993. The Soviet Union still exists and is still communist. Iraq had become capitalist via coup but has kept its territorial gains in Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, & Jordan--plus the US helped them take Iran. Also I used the UGE to give Iraqi-Saudi Neutral Zone to Iraq. In regards to the Korean Conflict, this scenario is virtually like the other one. However in this version, North Korea had suffered a failed rebellion resulting in them temporarily leaving the Soviet Alliance. As a result, South Korea and United States can invade North Korea without risk of Soviet military intervention once the North Korean invasion has been defeated. In order to assure South Korea is the one to control the north, it is advised that the player uses less troops then South Korea in the invasion. Also it is best to invade before the end of 1993--after that, North Korea rejoins the Soviet Alliance. Oh, and don't surgical strike North Korea--unless you save first. Even though North Korea is not on the Soviet Alliance, they are still adjacent to the Soviet Union therefore the Russians won't take kindly to that. It is also possible Japan may also back South Korea since they too are on the United States Alliance.

By the way, it may be best the player stay in the War Room as it is possible popularity can fall--If you leave the War Room, press "0" to stop the timer. However in the 1993 Scenario, I found that by spamming troop deployments helps inch popularity up. That is kind of what helped me last throughout WW3 in my recent Let's Play. Basically what you do is go to a country, in this case the Iraqi-Saudi Neutral Zone. There you will already have 3,000 troops. You make sure the timer is stopped. You select "Adjust Troop Level in Country". But instead of changing anything, you just click "Do It" and keep spamming that. Occasionally the neutral zone might say no but Iraq or Saudi will offer to take your troops--accept their offer. Sadly this trick won't work in the 1990 Scenario as it don't affect popularity at all.

In both scenarios, North Korean manpower has been increased to make the scenarios more challenging and to make sure South Korea cannot hold out without US intervention.

World War III Scenario
After taking a well needed break, I have resumed work on the Iraqi-Soviet Alliance scenario. Originally my idea was for the player to either allow Saddam to take over half the Middle East or risk World War III by attempting to stop him. However I have greatly expanded my idea so the Soviet Union will have a campaign of its own which will trigger World War III. The scenario will consist of elements from several movies and books including Red Storm Rising, Red Dawn (1984), World War III (1998 film), etc. The background plot involves Gorbachev being deposed in October 1989 by hardliners which results in the "Re-Stalinization" of the Soviet Union as well as the end of Gorby's reforms.

Several changes were also made to make the scenario more challenging. Soviet manpower has been increased to 25 million. The Warsaw Pact remains intact. The friendship between the Soviet Union and China has been rekindled. The Soviet WTA has several new members including Iraq, Libya, Morocco, Mexico, etc. Soviet ambition is now totally "ruthless" at 6.0--this means that if a Soviet invasion of a country is repelled, they will very likely use nuclear weapons on that country. Same goes for if a Soviet WTA member country is invaded and beaten. (It is highly recommended to bring Soviet ambition down BEFORE either case).

The Soviet Union will attack several friendly countries including "West" Germany, Norway, Italy, Spain, Netherlands, Taiwan, South Korea, and even the United States. I intend to include a scenario manual in the scenario package -- whoever plays this scenario will likely need it.

A few favorable (toward USA) changes were made as well. All Commonwealth Realm countries (ruled by Queen Elizabeth) are now Capitalist and on the United States WTA. France is also on the United States WTA though only for the duration of the first year.
