I just took over Jordan, Kuwait and the Iraq-Saudi neutral zone. I open up my screenshots folder and find a lack of any screenshots. Maybe my F5 key is messed up.

Last time I fought iraq, I lost 120,000 casalties. Lol.
Were you fighting Super-Iraq? Don't fight Super-Iraq. They'll nuke you dead.

I think it was because I massively cut funding to the military, I was experimenting Ron Paul policies in the 1990's with USSR. Surprisingly, the economics worked astoundingly. The military however lost 120k men defeating iraq, only to have iraq start dicking off Israel :/

This game really is awesome though, it's similar to Balance of Power, I love that game also, too bad the only MP is hotseat :(

I haven't been able to fire up the game in a while, but my main tip if you want to learn to play well is to try each and every action several times on both friends and enemies, and make notes on what attributes they raise and lower.  Then you know what actions to do to countries if you want to boost your or their economy, cool down their aggressiveness, etc.  AND you know which ones you can accept (some really harmless sounding ones actually have annoying effects on you).  Usually you have to plan a mix to do because each action raises/lowers a bunch of things, and you need to shore up the ones that are being dropped while you pursue you main goals.

Also, the #1 thing I try to do is get Leadership Effectiveness Rating to 90%+ (ideally 100%) ASAP, and keep it there - find the actions that raise it relatively harmlessly and pop off enough of those to build it back up when it drops.   Also when you're going after somebody, doing peacefulish yet enemy-LER-dropping actions first can really hamstring their response...

I've found surgical strikes on Iraq are OP, you can farm your LER up to 100% by bombing Iraq.

Though your Ethics crash each time you use it. You need ethics in order to tell another nation to reform it's social, or human rights policies.

You should care because often new capitalist countries that aren't part of you are unstable and can collapse. I believe both reforms help stabilize them.

Question: How does a nation change from Developing Capitalism to Capitalism?

Beats me. Maybe they follow the same government change method as other nations? I don't know.

Ok, comrades. There seems to be an issue with taking Iraq. It claims no countries around Iraq can hold our troops, yet I've taken over about 4 of them now.

Really? Hm, try these two things if you haven't already:

Instead of increasing the units in the area via war-room on Iraq, try increasing the units in the area via war-room on a neighboring country.
Wait a year, hopefully the countries you've conquered will realize that they are now your slaves (AKA wait until their relationship improves).

Tried it the moment I realised :(. Dosen't work. Maybe I'll try to increase diplomacy with a country repeatedly.
