I went on rampage... some time from when the SU was Imperialist, to after they became Nationalist. Take your pick
...Imperialist? Is that a thing in this?

Yes. Check South Africa with the second guy from the left, the NSA. Somewhere down there, there is a chunk of raw data on them "*Country name* - Vital Statistics". At the bottom, you'll see their ideologies. South Africa, at the start of the game, is Imperialist.

Little experimentation I did with the game, from where I left off at April 6, 1991. I nuked China. They nuked me. I invaded China. A few allies joined me. I nuked China again. My polls are done to 10%. China surrenders. My polls go up to 50% for defeating China, then drop to 36% for nuking China. I then invade Mexico who is now at ideological odds with me for what I did. My polls go up to 67%. Mexico surrenders. My polls go up to 100%.

Nukes flying everywhere up every country's ambition by a noticeable amount. When a country has very high ambition, invading them yields a popularity boost (case in point: Iraq, mostly). So, it... makes sense, kinda.

April 8, 1991: United States and Italy attack Yugoslavia. My polls go up from 75% to 78%, clearing indicating the American people approve the invasion. Soviet troops loyal to the toppled Soviet government attempt to protect Yugoslavia but are easily defeated.

April 10, 1991: After only two days, American and Italian forces capture Sarajevo in Bosnia from the north while primary American forces from the south capture the Yugoslav capital of Belgrade. Upon American demand, Yugoslavia surrenders to the United States and Italy. Approval ratings go up to 98%.

Current Events--April 10, 1991

World War Three: US Troop buildup continues throughout Southeast Asia along the Chinese border, as well as near the borders of Laos and Cambodia. On the European Front, the United States assumed control of Yugoslavia after a swift invasion. Calls for surgical strikes on Yugoslavia were made however they will be cancelled since Yugoslavia is out of action.

Middle East: Nothing new to report.

Your TI is only 23%, despite the fact you took out basically everyone who could clearly oppose you. That's just silly.

Also, you may want to send all that surplus money into social, just to check if that increases QoL somehow.

I'm pretty sure Iraq and China are both still opposing him. Also, total influence is divided between every nation in the world. You could only get a high ranking by conquering everyone. At 23% the US holds almost a fourth of the world's might by itself.

Yeah, my Total Influence tends to fluctuate at random. On two occasions, it dropped to zero for less then 24 hours before going right back up. Also the Soviet Union and other nations I took out since the start of 1991 are still considered "at odds" with me until the start of 1992. I mean, even the World Team Alliance map shows that the Soviet Union, North Korea, and Bulgaria are still in the Soviet WTA. Once the new year begins, China will become the new communist leader.

Yeah I don't think adjusting my social spending will have any effect until the following year but I will see what I can do. I will keep at least $500 in surplus in order to allow flexibility for unexpected surprises.

B: United States launches a single surgical strike on Mozambique, wiping out their nuclear spending.

C: United States hits China with 3 more surgical strikes, wiping out what is left of China's nuclear spending.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

May 11, 1991: United States takes out Ethiopia's nuclear spending with a surgical strike.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Current Events--May 11, 1991:

World War Three: US military continues military buildup in South East Asia. While the United States has been launching surgical strikes on enemy states, they have also been at the same time constantly proposing successful cultural exchanges to keep the US Ethic level from falling too low. The nuclear spending in Bulgaria and Soviet Union is of no concern since both countries are occupied by the United States. In Yugoslavia, the United States is continuing to rebuild the country's economy. Unlike Bulgaria and the Soviet Union, Yugoslavia is proving much more cooperative with the United States. The main concern there is bringing up their peace level and lowering their police state status.

Middle East: United States has deployed 10,000 troops to Israel and may likely send more in the coming weeks. So far, the CIA has found no new threats from Iraq, however it is only a matter of time before Saddam Hussein decides to expand again. Possible targets include Iran and Israel, both of whom the United States is prepared to protect.

Map--Nuclear Spending
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Important Note! The only reason I was able to get away with surgical striking China without them nuking me is because right now, the Soviet Union is responsible for retaliating against America for them this year. However the Soviets are obviously in NO position to be able to do anything about it save for sending useless protests and empty threats. If I had waited until 1992, I would not have been able to do it since China would have assumed command of the former Soviet WTA.

Well, my internet isn't going to be back for a while, it seems. Should I start this lets play, making updates a bit smaller and fewer due to slow internet, or should I wait until my net is faster so I can update more?

Short update: The date is July 18, 1991 and the Third World War continues. I have continued my buildup around China. I recently began troop deployment in Burma as well. Also sponsored a successful coup in Laos. With the help of Thailand and Laos, I launched a full scale invasion of Cambodia. Vietnam sided with Cambodia. For a while my polls remained stable but soon started to slide downward. I did continue surgical strikes on Cambodia, Vietnam, and China to slow my poll decline while using many cultural exchanges to keep my ethics from falling too low too long. By the time Cambodia was beaten, Vietnam only had 20,000 left. I invaded them the same day and won the same day. My polls are at 53%. However with frequent surgical bombing of China, my polls are brought up to 68%. China has attempted to station troops in the United States, which I refused as did all nations around me. They tried sabotaging me but with no luck. Their leadership is far too low for them to get anything done now. The three communist members in Africa are all that is left of the Soviet World Team Alliance, unless you count China by unofficial association. Iraq is threatening Israel so it is only a matter of time before America will be forced to act in Israel's defense. Also keeping an eye on Egypt's corrupt government and Syria's treacherous regime since Saddam may try to make an alliance with one or both of them.

I say continue for the crowd.

Bad idea in my opinion. A large section is already dedicated to the LP. If you want an official thread, it would be better for someone to start a new one. Both for the sake of the LP and for the sake of keeping the thread at least semi-organized.

Ok, sorry about not updating. My extremely slow net took about half an hour to upload anything.

Yay?

The first thing I do is open the budget window. Holy shit. What do I do to fix this mess?

Raise Tariff by .1 cent to give you a large temporary approval boost, Remove Foreign aid, Drop military to $250, raise Personal tax to 16.

Okay, now, make MFN to everyone who likes our country and has a notable economy.

What is the result?
