Report from Soviet Defense Minister--February 23, 1991
We have been monitoring the United States. According to KGB services, they have been steadily increasing their military spending. You should also be aware we have detected large troop movements along the border of the Soviet Union.

Report from Soviet Defense Minister--February 27, 1991
I was just handed this classified report on the United States. According to the report, there is a frenzy of military activity. Our satellite photos have confirmed troops are massing along the border of the Soviet Union... our border Comrade General Secretary.

Game Update

February 28, 1991: United States launches a full scale invasion of the Soviet Union. Turkey, Iran, and Japan joins in to assist the United States. North Korea sends nearly a million additional troops to assist their ally. While the main US forces invade from land and sea, elements of the United States 82nd Airborne Division and 75th Ranger Regiment moves to take control of key passes in the Urals, as well as key points of communications.

March 2, 1991: United States and allies scores several major victories. Roughly a quarter of the opposing forces have now been killed, captured, or missing. So far American, Turkish, and Iranian forces pushes deep through the Caucasus, having captured Tbilisi and Baku. Meanwhile American and Japanese forces take the Soviet port-city of Vladivostok and are pushing deep into eastern Siberia.

March 3, 1991: The US led invasion is going much better then the Joint Chiefs had anticipated. The American forces advancing from the south have taking the much of the Crimea as well as Sevastopol, home of the Soviet Black Sea Fleet. American forces advancing from the north pushes toward Moscow. Several of the Soviet Union's smaller southern Republics fall to the Americans and their allies. American-Japanese joint forces push even deeper into the Soviet Far East, taking many prisoners along the way. About 2 million enemy troops, which was around half of the enemy military at the start of the invasion, have been killed, captured, or missing. The United States casualty rate remain surprising low, with only 709 killed or wounded, thanks to the President's move to double military spending at the start of the year.

I am currently taking a break before resuming the game.

Wow.  That is a very successful war.  I wonder what will happen to the world once the Soviet Union is taken out of the picture...

I'm surprised they don't nuke you out of the face of the Earth.

Well, it isn't over yet. Though it is going quicker then it did last time.

I'm surprised they don't nuke you out of the face of the Earth.
Anyone who gets nuked during a war with the Soviets most likely tried to "soften them up" via surgical strikes. That is what provokes the nuclear response, not the invasion itself. The reason for that is is because surgical strikes goes for the target nation's nuclear spending.

So...the Soviets would nuke you more because your indirectly messing with their budget, and not because you're a hostile power invading them?

Something like that. I am sure there is a possibility of a nuclear response to an invasion however it is pretty low since that has not yet happened. By the way, using a surgical strike on a Soviet ally or a nation bordering them will have the same likely result.

Huh, with all this cold war, nuclear nonsense, you kinda forget just how effective standard troops and conventional warfare is.

Unless you're the type of guy who likes conquering the world.

Tell me about it. However I have no plans to use nukes... unless they use them first.

I think the game designer just did not plant for the possibility of a successful open invasion of Sovietland.

Will you take over the whole world?

Don't fully destroy them, demand their surrender so you get some of their army and their cool Soviet money.

Excellent. Plan of action:
1. Extend trade with Canada.
2. Hard stance vs. Communism
3. ?????????
4. Profit.
I have a feeling that step three will probably involve some sort of thermonuclear war. In case of thermonuclear war, I reccomend repeating step three. It's really the best decision.

Quick question: Anyone know what will happen if I declare war on an enemy alliance member without nukes? Mexico is looking mighty yummy with 150K men at 8K funding for each...

Good for you!
