March 3, 1991: The US led invasion is going much better then the Joint Chiefs had anticipated. The American forces advancing from the south have taking the much of the Crimea as well as Sevastopol, home of the Soviet Black Sea Fleet. American forces advancing from the north pushes toward Moscow. Several of the Soviet Union's smaller southern Republics fall to the Americans and their allies. American-Japanese joint forces push even deeper into the Soviet Far East, taking many prisoners along the way. About 2 million enemy troops, which was around half of the enemy military at the start of the invasion, have been killed, captured, or missing. The United States casualty rate remain surprising low, with only 709 killed or wounded, thanks to the President's move to double military spending at the start of the year.
