That's some amazing budget. Should have put more money into Defense, though, since you have so much.

Thanks! And you know what the secret to that is? The secret is do not adjust your budget at the start of the game at all. More money in defense you say? How much would you recommend that I add? I can simply go back to my saved game I made a few "game" hours before the start of the New Year. I assume having a large amount of extra money plus good projected GNP and Popularity would help in the long run right? Also I decided to keep my foreign aid as is since my budget is pretty optimal at the moment. Intelligence aid to my allies has proven quite useful.

Sucks that I only have 99% quality of life. Oh well, my 100%(!) Leadership Effectiveness more than makes up for it.
What I'm wondering his how you have managed to reduce the Cold War to a Cold Peace with all of this....well, warfare.
Sure. This is the year after those screenshots.

I see that good old Afghanistan is living up to its reputation as the single most hellish place on Earth.

It depends on how powerful you want your army to be. But I personally say 200 billion or so if you're going to attack the SU.

I don't know about extra money, but I think it doesn't do anything.

Anyway, yes, good GNP growth is a good thing. Though I think the economy might crash at +10.00% growth. At least, that's my personal experience.

Luck, I guess. Pretty much everyone seems to just plain ignore my blatant aggressiveness. And I didn't have a war recently, so the slider went upwards.

I'd suggest your military funding to be at least 300. The Soviet Union can easily beat you even with that much.

I have two saved games for the start of 1991, with the military budget adjusted differently. Game "A" has the minimal defense spending increases Tarran suggested. In Game "B", I doubled my defense spending. Which budget sounds best? Would Game "B" present a potential economic problem down the road?

Both games would work fine as far as I can see.

SU decides to condemn me for no reason. I condemn them back, they condemn again, I condemn again... It's been nothing but statements of condemnation for a while now with SU occasionally failing to supply arms to Japanese rebels.

EDIT: Iraq attacked Kuwait. I had 60,000 troops there who helped defend, then I moved a million troops into Turkey to invade Iraq myself. After 200,000 got there, I launched 5 surgical strikes and invaded. More soldiers are pouring in from the USA and Turkey offered 900,000 of their troops to fight with us.

So, it's
200,000 (+800,000 coming) USA's soldiers
900,000 Turkey's soldiers
20,000 Kuwait's soldiers
VS
900,000 Iraqi soldiers
2000 Soviet Union's soldiers

EDIT2: The Soviet Union is massing troops on the border of Japan. I get the feeling that none of this is going to end well.

Hmm... so when I invade and occupy countries. it is a good idea to check my budget to make sure my GNP doesn't exceed 10.00%, right? I will have to remember that.

That sounds so familiar. In an earlier game, the Soviet Union launched a surgical strike on Japan, prompting a Japanese ground invasion BEFORE my troops were ready. It really is not a good idea to get into a shooting war with the Soviet Union until the start of 1991 at which point any changes to military spending take effect. Best I could do is max out military aid to Japan in order to make their troops more effective in battle at least until the start of the New Year. Too bad I never got to find out since I overwrote the saved game by mistake.

Well, around 10.00%. I don't know the exact economy-crashing point.

Alternatively, it could just be certain taxes leading to the crash, but I'm not sure.

Edit: I think I've figured out what excess budget does: It allows you to commit espionage. No, it appears that espionage depends on something else. Hmm.

February 26, 1991: Current Events
Middle East: Iraq has control of Saudi Arabia and believed to be planning to invade Jordan on or around March 17, 1991. Since the United States was neutral during the war between Iraq and Saudi Arabia, the United States still has its contingent of troops stationed there and has increased their numbers a bit. United States is committed to the protection of Israel and will likely deploy troops sometime during the spring. Due to the social programs I sent to Israel, their QofL has risen greatly.
World War Three: The Soviet Union and Japan appear to be butting heads. My troops are just about ready to launch an attack on the Soviet Union. Both Afghanistan and Cuba are now free countries, great ethics, reserved ambition, excellent peace levels, and much better QofL. Debating blocking all trade with the Soviet Union in preparation for the probable invasion scheduled to begin at the end of the month.

US Troop Levels Near USSR:  Japan-2,192,000  Norway-2,097,000  Svalbard-2,072,000  Iceland-2,076,000  Turkey-320,000  Iran-172,000  Afghanistan-999,000

My Current Budget:

Note: Due to the continuous diplomatic incoming and outgoing calls, the game is proceeding rather slow.

My internet just got SLOWER. Its average download speed is about 1 to 6 kilobytes, sometimes even going below a kilobyte. It may be a while before this is updated. Fuck my ISP.
