That bit with the Soviet Union nuking Syria for no reason is one example of why one of my first goals in the game is to get the Soviet Union out of the picture. What I do at the beginning is begin a troop buildup in Japan, Norway, Turkey, and Iceland. I start small at first to avoid popularity drops, then I increase my troop levels in each country to the max (roughly two million each) By the Spring of 1991, I am ready to start non-nuclear World War Three. My pre-War polls were 59%. By the end, my polls dropped to 26%. Upon Soviet surrender, my polls jump to 70%. No nukes nor surgical strikes were used at all by either side. Conflict lasted roughly two months. With 80% of N. Korea's military buried in Siberia, I decided to attack. South Korea sides with me. North Korea is beaten less then a week later. Polls jump to 78%. As the larger invader, South Korea takes control of the north. China is dealt with in a similar fashion as the Soviet Union the following year.

So you set a trap, forcing the soviets to use conventional warfare and not nuclear bombs.  I like.

Only question is, how reliable is that? It sounds dangerous.

Also, speaking of the Soviet Union, you guys would not believe what my latest game is like. Standard scenario, the SU collapsed and reformed into a fricking Imperialist country, making an alliance with South Africa. Then, they went Nationalist, making an alliance with a BUTTLOAD of the fricking world, including Mexico, Brazil, India, and Argentina. Just thought I'd share, because honestly, I've never seen Imperialist or Nationalist SU, and frankly Nationalist SU is scary. At least I've got capitalist Iran, and I have control of Syria and Iraq.

Holy shit... I wasn't even aware that was possible.

Angel of Death...PLEASE try to make the country either Imperialist, Nationalist, whatever, something that will allow you to build an empire.  That story was just too cool.

If you can't do that, please make the U.S. communist.

I don't think it's possible to change the ideals of the US. Even if it was, I'd imagine that 999999999999/1000000000000 times you would be kicked out or killed.

Would it be even possible to mod a game this old?  So, you know, you can remove the pesky "democracy" part of the game?

I dont think Mod would be the right word.

It's probably close to hack, or rewrite.

As for possible, yea. Probably. It might be quite the time sink though and it also might be best to not expose how its engine works. Its probably pretty simplistic and abstracted, but gives a great appearance of depth.

I really don't think so. While I have nothing to back my stance, there are several things you need to remember:

This game is very old, built back in 1993 by a now defunct company. How many people can program DOS these days?
The game doesn't have a massive crowd of fans, so the chances of mod experts is astronomically low.
No mods have been released yet.
I don't believe that any source code has been released.

The farthest you can go, as far as I know, is editing scenarios with UGE. And I've never bothered with that.

Ok, so could AoD hack the game to change stuff, or if he wants, remove democracy altogether?

I MAY try to learn to modify the game one day, but I cannot find any reliable modding sources for now.

On another Shadow President note, with economic aid I sent Cambodia's GNP growth above 201%. Good god, what the hell. :o

This world I've got is just plain silly.

There probably isn't any. This kinda of project, I think would require unique tools (That you would have to make) to help ya do it. You might even have to write your own compiler. As I said, probably quite the time sink.

Might just be faster to wrote Shadow President 2: Electric Bogagulu.

If the US changes ideology, it's because a coup attempt somehow succeeded against you. If a coup attempt succeeds against you, you are dead.

Shadow President actually has a spiritual sequel called CyberJudas. The name of the game comes from the fact that in the main game mode, one of your cabinet advisers is actually a traitor who is trying to kill you behind the scenes.

You can change the game using assembly language.

Good luck trying, though.

By definition that makes you a fan since you still buy them.
