I still say invade the middle east for oil and stuff, but let's do it properly.  Acquire vital intelligence first, use specific soldier deployment, not just dump hundreds of thousands of soldiers there, etc.  If you can, sabotage the country, surgical strike them, supply arms to rebels, and finally coup them if you don't wanna conquer em.

Oh and as for economy, do what Tarran says.  I'm no good with economy.

Actually, I say we DON'T invade the middle east. If I remember correctly--do note that I've played the scenario recently--a lot of countries have nukes so we should avoid pissing anyone off. Let me check who has nukes...

World Reach: China, SU, US, UK, Brazil, India, Israel.

Macro-Region: Argentina, South Africa, France, Iraq (!!!).

Regional: Pakistan, Japan, North Korea, South Korea.

Exploded bomb: Iran.

Begun Program: Germany.

Yeah, that's a lot of nukes.

Re-read my post above.

This is why we should be careful. Everyone and their grandma has nukes.

MFN to India, Brazil, Argentina, Poland, Switzerland, and Mexico.

Decrease Defense to 200 or so.

Foreign aid to 0.

Personal tax up to 16.0.
Corporate to 56.0 or 57.0.

Result?
Still in 81 billion dept.

Seriously, how do you get this game to work?  I checked out Abandonia, and it said that this game does not run properly on DOSBOX, which i still haven't figured out how to use.  I unpacked the winrar file, there was a folder filled with notepad documents, along with various files that closed immediately as I opened them.  There was  one file called SHADOW, I clicked it, went to the, "type person who made this quite" thing, I typed nothing and pressed enter, and then for some reason a error occurred, and the computer told me that I could either shut it down or ignore it.  I ignored it, then went to a completely black, blank screen.

Seriously, what gives?

Anyway, other than my problems, is there really any way to balance the economy without raising taxes through  the roof?

How goddamn Iraq got Macro-Region nukes while Iran remains at Exploded Bomb eludes me. I guess that would have made more sense back when Shadow President was made, but now it just seems silly.

I'd figure Germany would have more than just Began Program, but I suppose they haven't been unified for very long at this point.

Alright.

I'm not sure if we want to get involved Saudi Arabia's affairs, seeing as their about to be killed by Iraq. I guess trade doesn't implicate us too much, though.

What version of Dosbox are you using?

Yes!

Yay!

Good. The economy is balanced.

It works for Dosbox. I assure you.

So, here's how to get it work:

Download DOSBox, use the instructions from Abandonia.
Put Shadow President into the virtual C drive. If it doesn't come with a folder in the zip, create a folder named Shadow. Don't type anything more, DOSBox doesn't work with files or folders over 8 characters (likely because it has to emulate DOS, which has the same limit).
Now, start DOSBox. Enter the commands "CD shadow" then "shadow". Voila, it should play. When it asks to enter things, just press Enter and nothing else.
BAM! The game should work. For best results, press CTRL+F12 to raise the CPU Cycles so the game can calculate faster. I personally go with 10000.

Alright.

Iraq wouldn't dare strike us.

And besides, when I was playing my last game, Saudi Arabia actually won against a Iraq that had Jordan and Kuwait even after being nuked, and the last time I checked their will to fight was ~70% while Iraq was 100%. Saudi is not fleshy, I assure you.

@Game: Now, wait.

You should download 0.72 or 0.73 as they're the most compatible.

I'm using version 0.72. It works fine aside from the occasional emulation glitch.

My concern is for the future. Iraq is even more unstable and hostile to us than the USSR is. The only thing keeping war from breaking out between us and them is that we have World Reach while they're still at Macro-Region and can't reach us. That's only one rank apart though, and they have a growing nuclear program. What are we to do when Iraq presents the same nuclear threat as the USSR, and way more ambition?

Nations seem to be very restrained when using nukes in my experience (besides the UK nuking the Falklands for no damn reason).

And do you have proof they would get angry for just trading for Saudi?

They will likely only use nukes against us if we surgical strike them or invade them. Or nuke them, of course.

Also, little tip: If a country says they'll use all means to stop you, they mean nukes. Just thought I'd mention that since we're talking about nukes. I learned that the hard way.
