Regardless, Israel is our ally, and we have to stick by them or the USSR will keep expanding. Things might be better if more of the Middle East were in our alliance. Like Iraq became a member of our alliance.

This is likely happening due to concern about the government if I had to guess. And people from inside the country are trying to assassinate the leader. You can't really attack them directly.

Ways I could think of helping government concern:

Social reform.
Human rights reform.
Maybe Peace mission. Can't remember.

But the first two depend on our ethics. And countries with higher ethics will be MUCH more resistant.

So there's really not much we can do.
