My best guess:

India was originally Nationalist, and wasn't part of an alliance. Or something. But they were a significant power.

Well, once we took them over, India and us fought a boxing match in the mechanics of the game for ownership of the alliance. We lost and were kicked to second place with 1/4ths of our alliances intact. But since the second place is "Soviets", we had to take their name.

The gray is "China" but without China and instead it's lead by the SU.

This game is on crack.

Dosbox didn't take screenshots of this, but I just had to MFN the Soviets and China to deal with our debt. It's kind of bizzare that it had no popularity loss. Maybe the Shadow President US has turned communist and the game just dosen't list it?

Are you sure it's not a problem on your end? I uploaded a picture just today and it worked just fine. Sure I get failed uploads too, but only 1-2 out of a hundred.
