I just had an idea. After playing a Civ 2 save that someone had played on since Civ 2 was released, I had the idea of running the same Shadow President save (the one before the invasion of the Soviets) for quite a while. Does that sound like a good way to reboot my let's play?

That sounds like it could be quite fun.  Literally just seeing where you can take the world in 50+ years.

You don't have a two term limit. You are the Shadow President, after all.

As far as I know there isn't any ending besides being impeached, assassinated, or voted out of office. The game is alternate history by its own admission from the start, so whatever actions you take can be justified.

Yeah but I don't get how the Shadow President can be voted out of office. I could understand being voted out by the shadow council.

Afterall the shadow president is supposed to be the "Real President" with the voted one being a puppet.

Ok so from what I understand is you can unite the world and turn it into a peaceful utopia... and the game will continue.

Edit addition: I just thought... Perhaps the Shadow President is part of one party. So it is that the Party you are part of lost.

It is possible that your popularity is Congress's view of you. Or maybe the Shadow President and the President are tied together, and if one goes the other has to. Or maybe they really are the same thing after all.

You can also get shot if everyone hates you, so maybe people do know you exist, alternate history and all that.

Alright, I got good news and bad news. The good news is is that I was able to repeat my success in defeating China and its few remaining allies. And I was able to do it even quicker this time then the previous time. The bad news is that the image site I use (Imgur) is refusing to upload my screenshots so I won't be able to provide any visual account of my successes. Hopefully they fix the bug by the time I reach the start of 1997.

Combat phase of World War III ends on June 1, 1996 with allied victory over China and its allies (USSR was defeated the month before)
India took control of China
Taiwan took control of Vietnam
UK took control of Bhutan
Philippines took control of Indonesia
New Zealand took control of Fiji

The date is now August 15, 1996. I am now focusing primarily on peace talks. I have managed to restore full peace for my allies who fought in World War III (Japan, S. Korea, Taiwan, Burma, Australia, Poland, Norway, Italy, etc.) Also did Social Reform talks to bring down concern for government to prevent a spontaneous change of ideology in the nations I recently converted. I am also working to increase Quality of Life for my allies as well as most of the countries I defeated with the exception of the Soviet Union. Their Quality of Life must remain at 11% until I return autonomy to them. Reason for that is because if their QofL is too high when I cut them loose, my QofL will suffer plus my economy would be so screwed, such as more then $3000 in the hole and -30% projected GNP Growth.

This certainly more then makes up for my temporarily lower Quality of Life.

Quality of Life around the world

Before I resumed my current game, I decided to do a small test to see how many nukes it would take to wipe out India's nuclear capabilities. Below are screenshots from that test.

Nuclear Weapons--India has regional nuclear capabilities that could be used against allies like Pakistan

Twelve nuclear missiles armed and ready--the minimum amount to take out India's nuclear capabilities

Defcon 1--India nuked

Goal achieve--India is no longer a nuclear power

Fallout spreads to nearby nations

4 months later--Fallout is seen throughout "old world" though it seems to be negligible judging by the peace levels outside India region. The Americas are unaffected.

I still say we try to keep the last nukes used in active war to "just" Hiroshima and Nagasaki, for moral reasons.

But if India drops a bomb we wipe the subcontinent from the face of the planet. It's TAD. Their Assured Destruction.
