Necromantic
Summary: You play as a necromancer, building an eeeevil tower and raising hordes of undead. Your ultimate goal is to learn the secret of eternal life, through intense study of the necromantic arts.
Visuals: The game will be rendered with ASCII characters using the libtcod library, with a lighting system for brightening or darkening tiles.
Gameplay: The game is played as a single entity, that is the necromancer (or anyone you happen to be controlling through dark magic at the moment), in a third-person, top-down perspective. There are three types of locations in the game:
Most of your time will be spent at the tower site, constructing rooms in your dark tower. This is where you will raise your undead servants, research new spells, and defend yourself from attacks. Undead servants will be used as cannon fodder and free labor, but a growing tower will need more servants before long.
This is where towns and dungeons come in. To “recruit” additional servants, you must kidnap and murder hapless villagers from the surrounding countryside, pile them onto your meatwagon, and take them back to the tower for reanimation. These town infiltration sequences can play out as stealth missions or running shootouts, depending on play style.
The last location type, dungeons, will play out like typical dungeon crawlers. The reward for looting dungeons is additional equipment, magical artifacts, and grimoires containing magical knowledge.
