Ha! Now you're choosing to push the issue. I think I'll have him tell you just because of how ballsy that was.

That's the pre-Utopia. I guess since that will all last forever, you have a point.

@Fog: You know, you are so absolutely perfectly placed to accidently and completely innocently destroy Williams hopes and dreams with a magic foul up. It's perfect, because your character is just that way. It would be an honest mistake. :)

How am I pushing the issue of Thomas's past?

How would it destroy anything's of William? He's on Rectyl's boat and rolling a one would mean the cabin catches on fire.
He has nothin' of interest in his cabin.

I love poor, innocent, hopeless Thomas... but he isn't that hopeless. Besides, William is about the only one who can shape him up at this point.

And I doubt William is partial to exploding into flames and then drowning if he survives.

How is William going to help Thomas shape up?

Thomas is weak. William isn't. I'm expecting William to rub off on Thomas.

I'm expecting William to rub off on Thomas.
He won't if you don't like that.
 ;D
By the way I beat Taricus to this line.

Anyway, yah, he'll probably give Thomas some strength of the "cynical, cruel and overly brutal" type.

Hm, so, a few questions. Is it possible for commanders like Nikephoros to carry some sort of bonus themselves that any unit they lead receives? And if so, is it possible to hire a person like that? Finally, assuming yes to the previous two, is it possible for a player character to start with such a bonus, and if not, could they learn one?

Oh, sweet. Thanks for doing that roll for me, CG. How often can I expect such rolls to occur, and when do you think I might progress to skill 1 (assuming the rolls are favorable)?

yes, yes, yes, and yes

Terenos actually grants a +1 to tactics, so yes (If ardas wants to think of a few options, go for it. I'll rule on their OP-ness. I'll allow it for him given his main emphasis of the character is  as a general - not a soldier-turned-general)
The general system is something we've been playing with and have mostly worked out. (will post and wiki as soon as we can)
NPC 'generals' exist and can be hired, at somewhere between .5d+/yr depending on the skills they possess.
Players can train in nearly anything they'd like to

EDIT: @Fan - Assuming you rolled a pair of 5s? The next to rolls. I'm going to have to limit the actual amount of training per season to probably the 5 rolls i've done so far. So probably next season you might make Rank 1. Ridiculously good rolls would earn you a rank a season, easy. The RtD for the training is as follows:

1: -20
2: -10
3: +10
4: +20
5: +30
6: -10

Okay, neato. With any luck, I'll be a half-decent mage before long. Many thanks for clearing that up.

All right, thanks for posting the roll table. ^^^ I was just asking because I'm considering ditching Tristan (he seems to be a problem character) and taking a little time off to study the rules and situation a little more closely before I try again with a character who could be of some use to someone with power, whether that be Arctic Fox, Laythe or one of her generals, or William and Retcyl, etc. Either that or a merchant of some kind...

Being a merchant is an easy way to make money and -become- a person of use to others (mostly as someone to fund larger projects). Starting out like ardas or terenos is a great way to start out as a person of use, but also puts you in situations to die faster.

Im going to rule against suicide-by-king. Simply because it's an assinine thing to do

EDIT: @Fan, fyi! A crit fail on training wont kill you - but it would causes negs to your stealth attempts.
EDIT2: @SC, There are a number of ways you could still use your current character if you wanted to go the merchant route. 3rd party funding of a few merchant ventures would be the most obvious. Merchanting is easy to pick up at any time. Suddenly becoming a general, however, would require training or a suddenly free NPC general to offset your lack of skills
