Shall we just say everybody gets the job of lighting fires  ? as for cyber's question I'd say you have potions restricted to what is actually possible with the kind of tech you've got, so it's more basic alchemy: eg. lighting fires, poisons, powder that releases a bright constant light when mixed with some kind of solution.
