Yeah, i was one of those ^.^

The upgrade system already does what everyone wants from this XP system. The issue i have with unit XP systems is that if you have a rank 4 or 5 unit, you still require at least equal numbers to your opponent to ensure it doesnt die. So you're then cannon-fodder'ing your army. The amount of time required to get a unit that high is absurd as well. The odds anyone will have units reach a high rank are slim. This also leads to the sense that units should be 'saved' in battle to attempt to rank them up. ARMIES IN THIS GAME WERE MEANT TO BE DISPOSABLE.

And on the note of those 2 people that want to simply kill things better - their units will never survive long enough to do so

This system is better suited for commander/generals,not units
Moving this discussion over here so we don't clog the voting thread.

One solution would be to introduce hitpoints. Considering how much people would hate me for trying to get that in (Not to mention the difficulty of balacing it.) makes that a no-go (Considering that's the only flaw in the combat system, though to be fair that was before unit upgrades were mentioned...)

Another one would be to reduce the requirements for reaching the upper ranks (4-5), though that means we'll end up with an elite spam, and thus why I made it hard to get there in the first place...

Hyte can be done, gopher it, i'm off work today so it wont be that slow

Tari: Yeah, thats why we wanted to go the general route. That way the player can act -as- a general to his units. Merc players would start with a perk or 2 as opposed to hiring NPC ones

Players also have no upkeep

Ah. However, this still has the problem of the troops being a bit redundant.

Still, the commander starting with a perk or two isn't a problem, except for the fact that we don't have any :P and we need to come up with stats for newer siege equiment and firearms too.

Perks wont be hard actually, we started up some earlier when terenos and i got bored while you were all yammering about XP. Commanders would have fun things like the info i put in for the leadership upgrade - medics, defender, shock, etc

What do you mean by lesser nobles? You people ARE the nobles, the next closest in rank to you are the heads of farms or mines, etc. I'll roll the other stuff though

Well, I'm not going to be hiring the troops a mercenary commander brings with him if there's no reason to. Considering I could train the troops myself. They would be hired straight off the bat if I had the money but not the manpower to expand the military though.

And there aren't any NPC nobles? makes sense from a management point of view.
