What country is directly north of our fine country/city of Talama? Or is that unclaimed land?

White land=unclaimed land. Which is not to say unsettled, just that the people there swear no particular allegiance to anyone- they might pay some token tribute to nearby city states, but nothing that would show up in the treasury. They retain their independance because no one in the Storm Coast likes other city states getting too big, so there is an unspoken rule that you leave the white areas alone (which is not to say you can't break said rule).
I'm not sure how realistic that is, but w/ever.

The grey land is minor city states, which may as well be unclaimed for all the clout they have. So long as you are a member of the storm coast you can attack them with the slightest excuse (their doge's sister called our president's niece fat!), although if you actually attempt to conquer them folks might object. Empire-building is looked down upon, and requires careful diplomacy to pull off, lest the entire Storm Coast comes down upon you like a ton of bricks.

I wouldn't think so. So long as the Storm Coast remains a mass of independent city states, the Storm Coast Hive Mind doesn't care what you do. Taking the overseas possessions of other Storm Coast members wouldn't cause a fuss either.

But oh god, oh god, let's not start colonising far flung lands until we have all the at-home rules figured out. Then we can start worrying about viceroys and tea parties.

I'm not sure, but surely it would be. Cultural differences, lack of existing infrastructure, plantations, transport of goods back to the homeland rather than independent markets, not to mention the need to create basically the entire world so as to offer players the chance to colonise anywhere, exploration mechanics, and who knows what else.

Aaanyway I don't really care. Just saying, it could get quite complicated quite quickly.

A monastary and university to force them into our culture, building new cities and roads, parcel-upgrades, convoys-which are allready in the trading section- or routes, and im talking like Suul or Old Elberth, maybe the dead plains, or weyland.

Indeed! I refuse to accept any form of game-play that isn't two identical nations endlessly chucking soldiers and merchants at each other!

I think if you wanted to trade by land rather than sea you needed a road instead of a ship, might be wrong though, but anyways, a road obviously is a large investment but I suppose saves upkeep money
