Feeling kinda lazy and playing Medieval 2, so I will come up with a char in a moment. i'm playing merc so you know. I will be starting off outside the country and lending my services to whoever hires me.

He/She only rules over a city, and it's small towns and fortress's around it.  It's still TECHNICALLY a nation, but she doesn't rule the entire purple region.

No because that's how City States work.

Athens and Sparta were both in Greece, but there wasn't a KING of Greece.

*shrug* depends on the city, some will have merchant councils, some noble councils, some may have "kings" some will have full democracies.

We'll work that out when we get there.

Actually the purple region is quite small. I figure the city itself would be the only major populated area in it. So, actually, she is meant to rule the entire purple region.

If your patronizing taricus and I really can't tell, I hate to admit it but in the post before you suggested a noble council yourself, Taricus was just taking something you said and agreeing with it... and I don't really know what city states are, probably should get that shizzle checked out.

Thought he was just saying that everyplace besides what he ruled was a noble council run place, as if they were all against him in a way.

I would assume that even in small citystates the land surrounding the place has a cuople of tiny parcels on which the nobles have small mansions and manors, while the rest of the land supplied the city with food.
Whether you do a noble council, a parlaimanet or autocracy should be up to the monarch's discretion and if there is a reasonable number of nobles.

Yeah of course, also.. ugh what are they called.. Priorys, I think.  For like small monk towns.  Depending on how Taloism works.
