We are at an era where carrying a sword was normal, right?

For a noble or soldier of fortune, yes.  Or a huntsman of some description, though they would usually carry an axe and maybe a shortbow or javelins (because hunting is better done at range).  Most people don't wander around armed with anything more than a simple iron knife (the peasant's tool of choice for all manner of tasks).

Swords, it is worth noting, are something of a nobleman's weapon.  The common soldier doesn't get trained in the use of a sword because swords are actually very difficult weapons to use - without extensive training you are as likely to cut your own limbs off as anyone else's.  Maces or spears are more commonly used by soldiers (spear fighting especially for formation work, with maces having an edge in close combat), but the tool of choice for many soldiers is a simple compromise - the axe.  Axes are probably the most common weapon available in this era, not least because with the exception of the most specialised battleaxes they also work quite well as tools for a variety of tasks a soldier might need to engage in (e.g. chopping wood, clearing brush, cutting ropes etc).

Additionally (although this varies by region) many places actively prohibit commoners from carrying weapons openly, and some places prohibit them from owning weapons outright.  This is most often to get around people using deadly force and rising up against their masters, or simply from causing chaos in the streets.  The idea that all men have the right to bear arms was a result of the revolutionary period (at least in Europe) - most governments have had the good sense to deliberately restrict their populace from wandering around with weapons.

But no, swords aren't obsolete.  If someone saw you with one then depending on how you were dressed they might think you were a noble, an experienced soldier or someone who's gone and stolen a sword.

Okay..Im fully prepared..Mostly. I suppose now I get the chance to get the aid of Cyber..

In addition..Just so you know Iituem..Unless Trubaldsome sacks his -own- port, he has no funds to spend on upgrades. So its really up to him about his troop disposition.

Erik (or anyone else with property there), if you get the chance just check over the Wiki page for Elbreth Province and see if it corresponds to your notes.  I think they're in better shape than mine.

Edit: I've split 'Liquor' into 3 distinct categories.  Grain is now only demanded for Spirits and Beer, allowing Vasir to produce Grain & Wine without upping the prices of Grain exports.

Just how strictly are we following the real world history here, like at what time something was invented?

If strictly then I can't choose a sabre cause gunpowder came to Europe at somewhere around 1200 when it was very rare. The sabre however came into use at the 17th century.

I don`t speak for the king, but looking through the last few requests people have asked for, the King isn`t given out any ducats because saying there is no money to give. You`ll probably have better luck in the new season when all the taxes come in.

Fair enough. I can wait.

As I look over the thread, I realize maybe I should have been a noble...

I've done a fair bit of alternate history in my time, and the thing to look at are conditions and causes.  If the world is not in a position to encourage the development of certain ideas, they probably won't show up.  Gunpowder is actually a relatively simple formula, but it takes a certain degree of freedom of thought for it to arise (and a sufficiently large class of tinkering scholars to stumble upon it).  Sabres are not particularly technologically-dependent - they are a sword.  They came into fashion due to an emphasis on cavalry combat that mixed long range rifle shots with short-range melee.

In short - you will get sabres if you get a region which likes to use horses and has a developed enough metalworking industry to produce high quality arms.

Edit:  May I also say that I appreciate the bitter irony of a pirate crew attacking Miring to spite Terenos d'Avistral... by helping Terenos d'Avistral.

By which time you will already have won the naval battle and have your troops in position to curbstomp the castle.  I think the addition of the carrack actually makes it almost impossible for Miring's fleet to win, so this is extremely ironic.  Hrm.

Edit: Especially since CG edited the wording of his orders so they won't get close enough to risk realising it's you on the ships.  I'm taking a note of that, by the way.
