So I think we should make some clear distinctions about alchemist, alchemist simply means scientist, not all scientists study the same stuff.   Alchemy just sounds cooler and more medieval then science.

Drua is a botanist.

Mahtan is not a botanist, he could care less about plants, hell he could care less about human biology, he's studying it for it's mechanical secrets, Mahtan is an chemical engineer, he doesn't make potions or elixirs.

Just thought I'd clear that up for everyone.

But also metallurgy, creating cast Iron for instance and various other alloys, (Alchemy in china also lead to the invention of black powder in the 9th century and first used in cannons in 1290 due to developing black powder into gunpowder in 1241) the bit in brackets was taken from wikipedia. Mostly it was used for fireworks and such, I 'spose this means we do have access to explosive powder, though not the type which can be used to propel munitions in large qauntity. I guess bombs would be well within reach of our technology however this is up to Iiteum to look at.

Gunpowder contains charcoal which is wood, Mahtan just doesn't know what would make a plant grow, or how to take care of one.    However I don't know if petroleum has been discovered in this world yet, because that would require prehistoric life of some kind.

Also grinding up plants together isn't chemistry, that's herbalism.

Also also, sit your ass down because you don't need all this crap, you want it. and what's worse is your probably asking us for stuff that doesn't exist and we'd have to invent it for you, and that doesn't make any sense and is metagaming.  That's like walking up to me and then describing a gun in primitive terms just so you can get a gun, despite the fact that you don't know my character and you should be 1000000% unaware that black powder exists, or could even exist. 

also also ALSO, I'm currently in a burning building, I could die and no one would even know.

pre-emptive edit- Yeah I'm in service of the king, hence why I said you'd have to be my friend.  If you want something from me, I'll give it to you when I make it on a whim, not when you commission me to.  and that's pretty much limited to things that can't or shouldn't be mass produced for the army.

had to edit anyway- Mahtan does know metal poisons, he's very VERY familiar with mercury, seeing as that's how he loss his eyesight.
