Well an IRC is internet relay chatting, its just a chat program for many people.
So far as I know, You are King is a spin off of You Are a Lord, with a much more concrete ruleset. As such it may be the first of its kind, but our Wiki is mostly to keep track of defined township data and so on.
1) Everything is driven by the players. It may be difficult to acquire meetings with players who see themselves as nobility, or are in positions of power. As its up to them if they want to meet with you.
You may, while making your character, define the area they start in. We do want everything to occur in the relative area of the Storm Coast. (See Nukes map on post 1, the crappy paint version for the general play area).
2) By all means be a traveling merchant. The player creation is set up so that people can define themselves better (at the cost of starting ducats). Please keep in mind we're about to update the merchant system, come the new year. So if merchanting is your goal, you may wish to wait to see the revised ruleset.
3) Anope. We're pretty lax about enforcing strict timelines, outside the Season changes. And most people are fairly good about waiting for replies.
4) Not particularly. Ducats are used for large scale purchases. If you want to play a 'poor' character, thats entirely possible.
5) Should be possible. But I wouldn't worry about screwing up. We play DF after all, losing is FUN! you wont lose the character, we're very against killing players off for any reason (unless its absolutely unavoidable/permitted by the character)
6)So far as I can tell, the Storm Coast is fairly relaxed regarding gender roles.
7) By all means. It would add depth to your character, and create a more engaging story.
Yep.
9) ..Wellllllll seeing as how magic is 'crazy rare' and for the most part we dont have any wizards (we had some but they vanished)...Go right ahead? I've hinted at the existence of Talosist witch hunters, so clearly its not unheard of to hate magic.
