Well, I saw just that little corner and thought that this is it. You know, one of those dime-a-dozen small kingdoms that were all over Europe.
the tzardom is nice, but starting off big cuts out the middle game for me, and I like the middle game the most.

E: One monarch for starters is OK in my opinion.

Well, we could just say it's that big (Slighltly bigger, due to the borders beyond the map though) and play as it.

well somehow when i saw them i only thought: huns...or Cossaks (Cossacs? How do you write that in English Oo). I would incorporate them as a massive threat for the future of the City States. Yes a Behemoth state like Russia or China with massive inner-political problems, enormously rich Landowners, horribly poor peasants, a trade partner with enomrous amounts of interesting resources for our traders and an disturbingly unhealthy expansionistic interest in the Storm Coast. Maybe Storm Coast=Bosporus for them...

This is basically what I envisioned. A sort of chinese/russian megastate, stretching from the other side of the continent to here. Their occasional invasion of the storm coast is only held off by the entire coast sending their armies to work together and hold the passes against the imperial armies.

We could play even as that, although the 'king' in this case would have to be more of a regional governor, otherwise the game would be way offa scale. Or we could say that the edge of the map roughly corresponds to the edge of the nation and play as that, though personally I like the idea of (starting) as a city state.

Not everyone has to start in the same place, and not everyone has to be of the same nationality. Having one kingdom and then haave the rest of Players scattered all over the coast would create a nice balance and a conflict of coast vs. inland, with one side pushing onto other.

we can have the megastate somewhere, but just that little corner seems like a very nice kingdom on its own.

I never said it had to be huge or anything, I just like the idea of playing as an ottoman-esque culture.

Ottoman culture? It's one of the few cultures I never really learned about. What makes it so cool?

Because we are situated in the north, and wearing thin cloth and sandals while its snowing is a mighty stupid thing to do.

That works too, but a few people want the brown nation (As it is, rather than part of the FULL empire of some far-flung nation)

@Edit: That's where thick wool robes come into play And it seems more interesting then playing europeans over and over again...

Maybe the people of that state wear thin clothes because they been taught to be seen shivering or wearing heavy clothes was a sign of weakness or becuase the mountains trap in the sea's moisture and make the land like a very humid swamp. Very warm and wearing thin clothes is the best way to keep the goddamn bugs off?
