Its not an action...It was going to be a conversation in a locked and empty room between two people. Then an action would be taken afterwards...I would have just liked it to be kept secret in order to keep neutrality towards the rolls of said characther and to prevent a few small amounts of meta-gaming.

Is it legal by game rules to have a conversation via pm in order to keep the contents secret?
Using info from other people's posts is metagaming I believe and the GM has to know what is going on.

It would be metagaming to use other people's posts and I myself have been called on that, let alone players.  So you shouldn't fear it.  But if you do conduct a conversation by PM, you have to copy me into it (and ideally any Kings it affects so they can respond to rolls) and any actions that aren't NPC Espionage actions (the one exception to the rule) should be posted openly.  Player espionage missions should be posted publicly for reasons of Fun and Entertainment, although you can post actions without revealing your intent until the last moment (i.e. you can get all the way into the enemy treasury before revealing you're there to start embezzling the hell out of it).

Given my wine purchase, fail roll on haggle combined with the production in that area keeps it at base. As thatkid said, for something like that it makes sense.

The flax roll bothers me though, without a production business -in- the province to use the resource, i really dont see how the modifier comes into play unless you're also balancing this with a -2 where there is a business to process it. Otherwise there's no way to come out ahead without a 1 on the haggle roll.

Game breakers are always useful.  Since industry demand modifiers make the assumption that in any city there will be at least some individuals capable of using the resource supplied, in this case it would mean that local flax was mostly being used by the home market.  Thus Vasir does not make for a particularly good flax export market - wool, flax and other industrial goods of this type are best produced in regions where it is the sole good being produced*, where the base price is thus -1 increment.  The counter to this is that most provinces do produce resources, many produce two and some produce three or more, effectively resetting the 'base' demand to +2.  Thus, if you are trading to other regions with +2 industrial demand, buying flax at +0 would be the same as buying grain at -2 and selling it in a +0 staple region.

The best way to play the flax market is to buy wholesale in autumn when the crop matures (preferably from a region with no other resources), store it and sell it in other seasons - ideally to regions that produce cloth (increasing flax demand) and lots of other manufactured goods.  Then probably buy cloth from those centres of trade during the rest of the year, store them and sell them during winter to regions with high staple demands (i.e. high urban:open land ratio locations).

*A province with only 1 resource has an Urban Potential of 5 - unless there is an industrial monopoly, of course.  This equates to Industrial Demand 1.

I think we should make provinces have industries, yet not have the raw resources or not enough of them in the province. So selling to them would be great. This however should take in tradition and culture of the province. I don't know if this is possible, but one should be able to buy to increase price and sell to lower price, this however would need huge micro-management to run by the GM.

I'm going to have to ask that we never, ever do this. Merchant rolls are already possibly the most time-intensive portion of any GM post, I think we can sacrifice a little bit of realism to avoid making it even worse.

The thing is, Vasir is a center of trade. It had made sure most of the goods in the region go through its ports and markets.

It specializes in the trade of various fabrics and cloths (and to a lesser extent, HQ Wood and Dyes), but those are far from the only things going through it. But there are no rules of trade hubs in the game as far as I know. Grain isn't even produced that largely - it's only the surplus that's sold. I haven't said anything because you've used grain as one of Vasir's main resources for ages already. It doesn't need to be changed, but I needed to point that out.

OOC: Ok, wow. I come back from one week of camp, and there's not only 20 more pages of YOU ARE KING, but also 100 pages of OOC stuff. I'm going to have to spend the rest of the day reading up, I'm afraid.
I'll check in when I know what's going on. If Manning is dead or something, whatever, but within a couple hours I shall be informed.
I'm a little bit scared to look at the wiki now. Last time I was here it was brand new.

Sorry my posting has been low this weekend, (Was spending it with the gf) but I'm hoping to actually make an action. I think the most pressing matters for Preston are:

- Get missionaries to covert it to Cyclicism, I'm thinking 3 ducats will bring in 2 missionaries from the temple and they can make some rolls
- Raise a regiment or two, possible one with Scout and have them start searching for the vanishing catapults.
- Scout out the northern border of Preston and see what sort of parties lie in Eastern Weyland and their stance to Elbreth and King Erik.

Agreed.  And the +1/-1 cost alterations for having a used resource in a province that produce a secondary resource partially adjusts for that anyway.  Let's minimise our micromanagement aspects - if I could automate this completely, I would, but I don't know how to set up an interwebs program that would work it out for us without the need of an arbiter to do the rolls.

Of course, if I could do that, I would probably just automate large portions of this as a multiplayer online game.  I just don't know how I would code anything like that (but if anyone has suggestions, I'll hear them).

Can I assume Amarillys has received the letter Kain sent her and has contacted me, or do I have to wait for... Something?

Unless there is a race that would change the outcome somehow, assume all travelling and messenger posts succeed automatically.  No need to make extra work for the GMs or extra delay for yourself.

I have now clarified by rulings on hiring specialists;  You may only hire as many specialists of a specific type per year as you have owned provinces, so in one year Elbreth could hire 3 spies, 3 engineers and 3 missionaries.  Sailors are exempt - 1 sailor is produced per year per port, but they do not need to be hired.

It costs 2d to hire a specialist if you want him to turn up next season, or 3d if you want him there immediately.  The best way to guarantee more specialists than your province limit is to set up academies to train them.

Service businesses have an additional advantage.  If they are Size 3 or more, they can spend 1 ducat to sponsor the training of a specialist and get him immediately - a business may do this as many times per year as it has Size (in other words, they can spend their entire income on sponsorships).

The other two business types have had some improvements as well (see the OP) including the ability for large commercial businesses to offer loans (rather than just extend credit).

The thing is, Vasir is a center of trade. It had made sure most of the goods in the region go through its ports and markets.

True.  I have however been planning for Vasir to be the home city of the Storm Coast Traders' Guild.

I must second thatkid's idea. Trade rules and rolls are .. elaborate enough to be sometimes problematic. Lets just keep the stuff as it is now. In-game events and GM-decided random events will change demand  and increments of provinces as we go along. I want to eventually mix my trade with politics, once I acquire a monopoly or create a guild. By then I hope to rival some nobles in power, through my sheer economic and financial weight. I will also try to gain favour of king to help my projects come along.
