I don't plan to start up another fort until the next release. I don't really go to the upper forums anymore either...

I've ran DF almost every day this week and before that at least once a week but I've not been playing it. This last week I've been generating worlds and messing with the settings a lot and before that making mods and testing them. Haven't sat down to a proper fort in a long time so I voted "Played Dwarf Fortress in the past, but not recently". I've played LCS properly more recently.

Been tempted to start another fortress to tide me over til the next release. But I always end up hitting a bug that ruins my long-term outlook for the fortress, something that's important if you want to keep one going past 5 years.

So like this last time, a bug came up where my Sheriff, once pulled out of his squad setup, lost his Noble position and could not or would not reclaim it. I could have assigned another dwarf to the position, but HE was the dwarf I'd been grooming for it.

Or you get a noble, one you'd raised since the embark, who starts mandating the impossible right after their appointment, and you've got the choice between killing your darlings or watching them get imprisoned and slowly fall apart on you, and perhaps your whole damn fortress. While that's all 'fun', it always takes the wind out of my sails. I don't want to have to murder nobles, I just want them to mandate something doable. I don't mind my dwarves being punished, I just want them punished for something that makes sense.

So yeah. Waiting on this new release not so much to dive back into a fort, as to play a game of adventure mode that doesn't top out in content after 2 days.

---

As for LCS, I tend to lose interest around the recruitment phase, when I've spent 20 minutes in one turn at a location trying to find the job I want.

I still run DF about once a week or so, but the new version still confuses me and I never manage to bother reading the wiki, so I just play for 30 minutes and give up.

I play LCS when the mood takes me. Last played in April, I think.

I haven't played much recently, mostly because:

1)  My fortresses seem to often end up going the same way each time I play.
2)  Military seems a little useless compared to earlier versions.
3)  Building a crazy megaconstruction tends to be tedious.
4)  It feels like I've seen most of what the game has to offer.

I'll probably wait a few versions and start up a new fortress at some point.

Tinkered around with an existing fort last weekend. Dug down to the 1st caverns in search of water, but my legendary miner goofed and dug right through the ceiling and took a nasty fall. He somehow managed to drag himself back to the surface despite having a broken arm and two broken legs. Rushed to build a hospital (already had the groundwork in place), but by the time it was finished he was infected in all his wounds. Not much to do but sit back and wait for him to die after that.

Good times.  :P

But yeah, I'm mostly waiting for the new version. That, and Aurora has a new version out so I spent most of my weekend at work playing that.

Ya, I guess most people are sick of the ol' magma jokes and are waiting for .26 to get released.

Word.  I've seen every trick the game as is has to offer, and I've run out of patience for modding.  I've also run out of patience for a lot of the old jokes, although I bitterly cling to the ones that were great in my day (Never Forget the Mermaid Farm).  I suspect the next version will be very enticing, because it'll include lots of new random stuff to make each new game an unpredictable experience, along with improving Adventure Mode.

Haha, only one in my category thus far.  Pretty silly.

C'mon, try one of them some time.  They're all easy to get into (that is, all both of DF and LCS).  C'mon, you'll like them.

C'mooon.

I got into DF back in the 40d days, and had a whale of a time.

Ever since April 2010, I have been playing it intermittently. I keep having great inspirations, and I fire up a new world in an attempt to finally get round to making a megaproject. However, as I progress I realize that it's going to take a lot of time, and there will likely be a new version before I am done. This puts me off, and I stop playing for a while.

If it were possible to know when toady was going to spend a long time before the next update (like how long we had with 40d), then I would play it a lot more and make a megaproject or two, but since I don't know I don't want to commit to anything big.

I got into df during this version( but learned to play through jefmajors 40d vids) I can't seem to get 40d to work for more than 5 seconds...but I play df quite frequently, I find it...... relaxing in a way.
I played LCS( I might boot it up after I post this).......now I know how people feel playing df without any prior knowledge. :)

Not played for a month after breaking the power cord to my laptop - saving the last 7% of battery power for emergencies. The laptop I am typing on now is my partners, and she is adamant she doesnt want my funny looking gnome game on here.

Gnomes? I hope you corrected the misunderstanding. Gnomes steal your booze. Dwarves dig...and steal your booze.
