I've never played DF, actually.
That would be a far more interesting poll to me, actually. How many people who frequent this forum actually play DF anymore? How many, like Vector, have never played it?

You'd get more interesting results by posting it in the lower forums, methinks.
Ask and ye shall receive.

In the days when Sussman was a novice, Minsky once came to him as he sat hacking at the PDP-6.
“What are you doing?”, asked Minsky. “I am training a randomly wired neural net to play Tic-Tac-Toe” Sussman replied. “Why is the net wired randomly?”, asked Minsky. “I do not want it to have any preconceptions of how to play”, Sussman said.
Minsky then shut his eyes. “Why do you close your eyes?”, Sussman asked his teacher.
“So that the room will be empty.”
At that moment, Sussman was enlightened.

I used to play 40d all the time, but after the new release, I've only briefly touched it~
Still play LCS quite frequently, though~

I keep waiting for the new release to come before I start it up again, because it's going to throw in so many new things that just won't be there in a world generated beforehand. Because it's going to be released shortly after I start if I don't keep waiting.

And waiting. .-.

I had heard of DF when I started LCS, but was fairly uninterested. I do play both quite a lot, but if I had to give up playing either, it'd be Dwarf Fortress. I like LCS way too much to give it up and I've got some fairly ambitious plans for it. If only I could get myself to finish all the stuff I've planned for it.

Haha, only one in my category thus far.  Pretty silly.

I know there's a rather large population (in the upper forums) of people who enjoy DF for its great potential toward violence. I, personally, enjoy DF for its potential to create story skeletons*. I don't play very often, but when I do play it, I like to use my imagination heavily to place story in everything. It can be a very creative experience. It also stimulates my drive to tinker with things, and it call to me to go into the RAWs, and mess around with things. because messing around with things can be very fun for me.

* DF doesn't create stories, people create stories. The skeleton of the story can be created by DF, but it's the telling of the story that ... well... makes it a story. There are more untold stories in DF than I think anyone can count, but were they worth telling? I'm sure some gems have escaped untold into the depths of nothingness, but for every gem story, there's a lot of boring rock being generated too. And so the storyteller still has to identify that they have a gem when they see it, and they still have to tell it in a way that makes narrative sense. So, yeah.

I used to love DF for its architectural elements. I'd keep on imagining the perfect fortress layout, not in efficiency (at first only), but more in aesthetics. Massive Moria-like entrance halls, 21 tile diameter circular staircases with a "bottomless" pit in the middle and other such antics. Eventually stopped playing when I quit playing most games.

I play Dwarf Fortress quite a bit. FPS death is what tends to annoy me, that, and the things I cannot do in order to avoid fpskilling my machine. I hope to play longer games now that I started some lower pop forts....

I played DF and LCS in the past, but don't do it so much anymore. I just can't find the want. I'm mostly here for the community, really. You guys are fun in your own right.

Unknown to most but the insane and the mystics, Tarran is actually Earth itself, as Earth is sentient like that planet in Avatar. Originally Earth used names such as Terra on the internet, but to protect it's identity it changed letters, now becoming the Tarran you know today.

Tarran has the "Tarran Bug", a bug which causes the affected character to repeatedly hit teammates while dual-wielding instead of whatever the hell he is shooting at.

I think I'd play DF more if a) I had a better computer and b) I could automate it a bit more. I haven't played it in a month or so, and even then it isn't a good sit down and play. More like, fire it up during a download and close it out once my downloads done. I'm really here for the community. And for my stalker-crush on the Homestuck art-dumps.
