In my head, Ja'Ne was the Human/Kroot liaison, so he's learned to tell, but only by a little.

Hehe, yeah, I thought it was a rather stupid idea really - it reasoned something like; since Kroot don't have much gender dimorphism and tell their sexes through non-visual means (that is too subtle for humans to sense), Kroot also can't tell the difference between humans. Which is stupid because while humans lack the right senses to tell the difference between Kroot, Kroot do have fully functioning eye-sight and that is the main way to tell humans apart!
