they cancelled nox and ruined ultima? i didnt know there was an ultima 9.. oh god, EA is worse than i thought... i hope that they stay far away from alpha centauri, and avoid ruining one of my favorites...
nowadays it seems that all of my favorite game series are getting the bad sequel treatment.. i can only hope that alpha centauri isnt touched!

Btw, EA has the 5th best Metacritic average overall. http://www.metacritic.com/feature/game-publisher-rankings-for-2010-releases
Just because metacritic score is *shit*.
If graphic packs for "run straight and keep left mouse button pressed trying to aim no further than a half of monitor away from enemy" a.k.a. crap of duty gets anything more than 30%, it is not a reliable source at least FOR ME. And looking at those eightys i just put their thoughts on the same shelf with ones from a guy talking that eating shit is good and healthy.
I wonder how high metascore would df get. Like 12%? Its so hard and i dont even know whats on screen.

You think that the majority of their reviewers (or the people who take metascore seriously) even know how to get a game without buying a disc or buying it through Steam?   :P

What did it for you?

While I could say cancelling Milo... truthfully it was Fable Journeys that did me in.

Black and White II for me. Lionhead studios only ever published two decent games in my opinion: The Movies and Black and White I. They also offered horrible support for both games to the point where The Movies I will not work with x64 windows (which I now have) although if it is coupled with the expansion pack it'll work (which I don't have) and they no longer sell the expansion pack EXCEPT to Mac users via digital distribution (?)

What works against Alpha Centauri is its age. EA is a company with a strong belief in modernising old series with functions it doesn't need essentially creating entirely new games.

They don't know how to hold the qualities that made a old series great and run with it. They can only take new games and give them a paint job, switch lables... and then call it a day.

At least some of the time.

They are just as likely to take Alpha Centauri and give it to a team who makes similar games and go "Hey, can you make *Insert game here* again except can you call it Alpha Centauri?"

Again, I still don't see how a new game can make the original game any worse.

In so far that the "Series" becomes worse.

Doesn't really make sense to me, I never judged games by other games that share their name or concept.

Well, to be fair, it did happen with the Rambo series. Rambo I is nothing like II, III, or IV.

However, I don't see it happening here.

Same for me, they turned it from a god game into a city builder and screwed up everything that was good about it in the process. See also, Fable 2 and 3. No end boss fight, no death, no challenge.

Seriously, what the fuck was with the death in Fable 2?

You get a scar, lose all the EXP on the ground and instantly revive with no other penalty?
Who thought this was a good idea?

Peter Molynueax, thats who. He's the one who makes most of the shitty decisions for Lionhead games. He's the one who decided that having armor in fable 2 was too much "hassle" for players, so removed it ALL. He makes these dumb choices all the time. If lionhead got hold of Alpha Centauri.... ugh... THAT would be horrifying.

I can't help but think that, while horrible as well, it'd be hillarious to see him try to adapt Alpha Centauri into his "instantly mastered by anyone" mentality. It'd be like Alpha Centauri Societies.

Not to mention his make believe features. "I'd like you to meet a Provost called Zakharov. He can recognize our faces and our voices. And this is Claire, she's going to introduce you to Provost Zakharov.".

As someone who never would have gotten into PC gaming if it wasn't for Alpha Centauri I'm somewhat concerned.

Then again I still enjoy playing the original (Okay fine... with alien crossfire included), so I have nothing to lose if EA screws it up royally.
