It means we are going to get HORRIBLE Alpha Centauri sequels.

*Sigh.*

Incoming Civ 5 mod that retails for $59.99.

EA makes stupidly simplistic games, they're only slightly good at shiny AAA shooters.

EA is more a publisher nowadays. They might just hand it off to one of their subsidiaries, like BioWare or Maxis. Fingers crossed for a halfway-decent game? D:

Lionhead couldn't.

I've completely lost my faith in Lionhead... which is a shame.

I hope they turn it into a first person shooter.  I wanna shoot up some mindworms with Yang!

That'd still be shoving an IP in their hands and telling them to milk it, which likely wouldn't end too well. Certainly a best-case scenario, though.

That is a shame. What did it for you?

While I could say cancelling Milo... truthfully it was Fable Journeys that did me in.

I was very disappointed when I read that EA had re-registered the trademark. Alpha Centauri was Firaxis' work, just like Civ, and IMO it's their right to make a sequel, not EA's. EA even let the trademark lapse. Not to mention that I don't trust EA at all (not that I liked Civ V either, but I'd expect Firaxis to make a better Alpha Centauri 2 than EA...)

...why are they trademarking Alpha Centauri?  Shouldn't they already own it?  They would have inherited it from Maxis when the acquired the studio, right?  Did Maxis not bother in the first place?

There were some strange things with shared IP when it comes to Alpha Centaury IIRC. At least, I remember the guys from Firaxis saying they couldn't make a sequel due to licensing issues. So I assume that part was licensed by Firaxis and part by Maxis or something?

Edit: Or they could be reregistering a deactivated IP because nobody has done anything with Alpha Centauri for over a decade...

I think they're explicitly reaffirming/renewing it. Yes, they previously owned it. I think they owned all of it.

EA let the original trademark expire in 2009.

... What does Maxis have to do with anything?
