Weaponizing FB blood
« on: August 12, 2011, 05:51:04 am »

I've got a semi-trapped Forgotten Beast in my fortress that has "deadly blood" and planning to set up a chamber to hold it once i can get it caged (webbed cage, of course).  Here's the question - what's the best kind of weapon trap to make it bleed without doing enough damage to kill it quickly.  It's going to be in a room filled with grates and weapon traps.  It cuts, it bleeds and walks,  blood drips down the grates into the room below for any elf dumb enough to enter.

 Ideas, anyone?

I don't think that'll work yet because blood doesn't count as a liquid... God I hope someone proves me wrong though...

Once liquids are implemented properly, you could set up a mandatory test involving potential military dwarves swim through a sea of blood on their way through the testing.

I know it's not a liquid, but it still splatters on a surface when you cut them.  I'm hoping it'll splatter THROUGH the grate onto the floor below.

Blood doesn't work that way. It will cover the grate and nothing more.

BattleFailed tried to do this once.  Take a wild guess how it turned out.

Aww.  But i wanna use an eldricht horror from beneath the earth as a cheap and petty defense system.  This game never lets me do anything horrible or cruel.  Oh well.  Back to watching my elite militia guys decapitating FB's and drowning the trade caravan in the sealable trade depot.

If it is a non-flying Beast, would it be possible to place it on a single tile platform over your entrance/prisoner room, and use Upright Spikes to cause bleeding, which will fall off the tile next to it, landing on the prisoner room?

You might want to figure out what this "deadly blood" actually does first. I had an FB whose dust made all my military dwarves into skinless, immune-to-pain zombies, which is probably not what you want happening to invaders.

EDIT: try low-quality weapons and wooden spikes

Very true.  Last thing i'd want is zombie elves hungering for woodcutting dwarves.

Could you divert a shallow river through the FB's area and into where your invaders will come from? That should carry the blood with it, so long as it can transfer the infection via direct skin contact.

Of course, it'll be really fun once your dwarves start walking around in it.

I didn't personally mod it, but someone who duplicated raws managed to embark as living trees that ate wagon meat.

That led me to the conclusion that duplicating raws is like feeding your computer LSD.

That could be weaponized still. Use the blood on captives, and have those captives eat the other captives!

If you want to cover an area in front of your fort with FB blood, drop it there from a great hight. Should work well.

Simple. Kill the beast in the blood room with upright spikes. Then retract them.

You'll end up contaminating any upright spikes you use, at the very least.  Not sure if that'll contaminate creatures spiked later.

Any item you use to draw blood should become contaminated with the FB's blood.  After that, you can move the item to a location you want the blood, dump a bucket of water over it, and voila, you have made a square of deadly blood.  You can put the square in a prisoner's chamber, if you want, just be careful not to let your dwarves clean it (or walk on it, I guess, although maybe that'd be good, could give you a few boots to disperse the blood further....)

He he he.  Yeah, it almost looks done...  alas...  those who are in your teens, hold on until your twenties...  those in your twenties, your thirties...  others, cling to life as you are able...<P>It should be pretty fun though.
