I've actually stopped listing my gender at this point.  Doesn't have a sexuality on there, either.

Hehehehe good luck, adbots <3

That sounds like an interesting thing.

It's known as the Oppai-Kaiju effect. The islands of Japan generate a sort anti-gravity field, which allows breasts to behave as if in microgravity. It's also what allows Godzilla and friends to become 50 stories tall, and lets ninjas run up the side of a skyscraper.

Yeah, I know.  Currently I'm sort of wondering if I can turn adblock off in order to find out what sorts of nuisances they shovel your way when they assume you're male.

Why would you do it on the anniversary of the world's most famous failed terrorist attack/ assassination?

Look, Dallaire tried his best, but the wife locked the door, and Jean was brandishing a sculpture.

Okay, so, today this girl I know-Lauren, just took a sudden dis-interest in talking to me. Is she just on her period or something?

I actually don't see how it's that big of a deal to anyone of age 18 or over. I understand that people under that age (and even some of and older than that) can be the victims of online predators, etc.

However, I honestly don't see how important my information is. Here's my name, you can find that in public records, here's roughly where I live and went to high school (also public record), here's where I'm currently enrolled for a degree (moar record!), here's the movies I like (I like them because they are good movies, and if it helps people make better movies than the sea of dribble, I will gladly submit that information), here's where I have an interest in anime (haha, like I'm the only one), and here's where I have an interest in bands (if it helps to stop this continual release of atrocious copy-pasta audiorape, I will gladly submit that information).

I suppose the worst thing to put up there would be something like my address and my phone number, which I don't (because I don't really feel like letting EVERYONE have my phone number).

The only real stuff they can steal are my Notes and my status messages (which occasionally have stuff like poetry or quotes, whether by me or others that I find). I doubt that's the sort of thing they'd be stealing, but if it is I'd be pretty upset. It's not totally steal-able, though, because I have proof I'd be the original author via timestamp, so...

But...but...they'll use all that to provide you with...<horror film voice>RELEVANT ADS!</horror film voice> *gasp*

Which you probably won't even see because of Adblock *double gasp*

What a cruel world we live in! To think they could betray you like that! :p

Someone more fear mongering than I could tell you all about what people can do with what little information you put on your facebook. Rest assured your phone number and address can be found out by someone who cares enough to look. That's not going to happen though unless someone's out to get you specifically.

For the rest of us, it's simply a matter of privacy. You have no right to know my real name, nor anything other than what I willingly tell you. Nor does any company.

Quote from: Chesterton
For, in order that men should resist injustice, something more is necessary than that they should think injustice unpleasant. They must think injustice absurd; above all, they must think it startling. They must retain the violence of a virgin astonishment. When the pessimist looks at any infamy, it is to him, after all, only a repetition of the infamy of existence. But the optimist sees injustice as something discordant and unexpected, and it stings him into action.

Reminds me of this article. The information Facebook sells isn't all that scary, but the sum of information they hold is pretty staggering. And FB really seems to activate the stupid in people. Lots have had their homes robbed because they put "on vacation" in their status.

Either Viagra/Cialis or some penis enlarging snake oil. And these ads would have you believe that 12" is the minimum acceptable size for a man's penis.

That just seems comically wide.

In the days when Sussman was a novice, Minsky once came to him as he sat hacking at the PDP-6.
“What are you doing?”, asked Minsky. “I am training a randomly wired neural net to play Tic-Tac-Toe” Sussman replied. “Why is the net wired randomly?”, asked Minsky. “I do not want it to have any preconceptions of how to play”, Sussman said.
Minsky then shut his eyes. “Why do you close your eyes?”, Sussman asked his teacher.
“So that the room will be empty.”
At that moment, Sussman was enlightened.

Heck, if people are willing to pay for what information I have on facebook about myself, I'll sell it to them myself! An e-mail address I stopped using for anything important years ago, a set of interests I haven't updated in years, what schools I went to, what university I go to, and that my favourite quotation is "Walk like them until they must walk like you."

Here is the thing, in terms of information security, Why do we all tell the truth online?

We could ruin the confidence of all these people know about us with some white lies.
