Searching for a square font to use with dfterm
« on: August 11, 2011, 09:07:14 am »

So, a friend of mine and myself have been playing df through dfterm for a while now. However, the fonts included withing putty, as well as all other fonts we found scatred across the net, were either non square or had certain characters missing. Im posting to see  if anyone has, or knows about, a square font wich works ok with dfterm.

I have no idea about DFTerm, but there's a default square tileset in the game already.

Go to init.txt. Find the line that looks like this:

[FONT: curses_800x600.png]

...and replace it with this:

[FONT: curses_square_16x16.png]

A few icons look a bit different, but I find it to be better generally.

What Tharwen said would work, because DFterm can transmit the tiles from the game. Because of this, a square tileset would also work; just not a graphics set (I think).

Changing these options is useless in this case because what dfterm does is convert text information into ascii using a font, wich is comes from putty. As such, changing the tileset in the game itself is useless because all thats transmited to dfterm is the tile information, not the graphics of the tile. The information is converted in the spectator's (aka, not the host's) computer, using a font directed from putty.

So, unless someone knows how to use a png as a font, using the curses display is a no-go.

Not only can you use statues, you can decorate statues before you build them for maximum art density.
