Suika is pretty beastly too. But I'll also say pick whomever you think is the cutest/coolest/etc. They all have some nice advantages that you'll learn with actual playing experience, though some are a bit more pronounced than others.

I always pick Random. Because I just know that if I try hard enough I'll get Rin Satsuki. Eheheheh.

I could be biased though, since she's the only character I use.

Ever.
I will never, ever forget how you finished me with Luna Dial.

And I'd like to play as Mokou~ :b

I am going to have to agree with Taz on Sakuya being a good starter character~
All of her attacks are easy to visualise and she's fairly balanced between melee and range~
Also, her knife spam makes it easy to control the playing field~

Had some awesome matches with Claxus' Komachi tonight. Way too many close (both won a round, and both down to the last sliver of life) matches to count. Never could quite edge him out and take an entire game, but it was still good fun. Mainly just bumping the topic, as we need to keep the channel alive, it's just too good to let die off like the last channel.

Thought i'd toss this in here. The servers full atm, just registered right now so i can invade some soku games.

Just wondering, how good are you guys over here?
Just a brief of my info

Mains: Suwako, Cirno, Sanae
Submains: Yukari, Remilia, Youmu, Aya
I can use everyone except utsuho, suika and meirin.
Yes i do play competitively.

Tenco! ELO: 2132 Suwako and 1932 Cirno. (Luna/PH level)
And yeah, im just searching around for more places to find soku.

Patchi is easy to overcome if you know how to graze. A basic technique that can help you is triangle grazing all day so that you wont worry about spam. She has horrible priority on her melees and take advantage of that. A good patchi plays very patiently though, and forces neutral game all day.

In terms of good starter character, Marisa and Youmu are probably THE MOST basic characters in the game. Their aerials dont require much knowledge of situationals except a few (ie: (j.A) j.6A j.6C j.214B alt OR j.214C alt, depending on distance) and some youmu improvs which is still stupidly easy. Youmu's ground BnBs are really easy due to the fact that you can pull off one of them in every situation, and her corners being moreso easy. Pulling off good marisa corners require some execution (ie: AAA j.B TK j.A j.2A j.2C j.214C alt), but still mostly basic. Sakuya isn't really that basic IMO, though shes really flowcharty. She at least requires you to have some solid execution and MU knowledge.

I think none of us play Soku competitively, and the majority of us don't bother with more than dial-A combos.

Played competively in a few smash bros melee tournies quite a few years back. Never did that well though, usually eliminated in the 2nd or 3rd rounds. As for soku, haven't really bothered to look for professional tournies and whatnot. It's more of a side hobby for me, but I do definately like to work on my playing though and use more than the standard dial-a.

Does anyone still play this, or is it dead?

Oh wow, been awhile since I've seen this thread. The hamachi room in question is pretty well dead as far as I know. But I still do play soku, usually with direct connect, but can use hamachi if needed.

You could bring this back to life once 13.5 comes out.

I do remember your name now from the old Hamachi room, Sergarr. If you want to arrange some matches, I'd be willing to play. Just send me a pm or some such, so we can avoid upsetting our more sensitive fellow forumnites with a necro'd thread. ;P

And 13.5 does look interesting. A friend even found and linked me a demo version of it, but I couldn't get it to run on my ancient pc.
