LCS, damn you!
« on: August 10, 2011, 12:40:30 pm »

I pretty much by accident found this little evil gem hidden under the other games tab when I was browsing for dwarfy news and I have not been able to put it down. Damn this is entertaining. Had a nice run with Velvet, I didn't manage to change public opinion much but damn did I make cash.

I had a sweet prostitution and kidnapping ring going, jumping between safehouses whenever one of my ladies of the night got grabbed by the fuzz, I had "converted" people everywhere liberating funds for me. It all ended though when I thought I could kidnap someone important in the CEO mansion, I raided the place with my black bag squad who had performed so admirably several times before. Armed with three assault rifles, two shotguns and a crowbar I charged into the place and started messing shit up. When three of my men were gunned down I tried to egress, one more got shot on the way out but two survived. A chase ensued and the fools managed to flip over their car killing themselves (I am quite sure they must have been inspired by the suicidal tendencies of my dwarves). Everything went downhill from there.
A police raid on one of my safehouses uncovered the remains of five failed interrogations, luckily my leader managed to slip out before they got there. With only my leader and her bodyguard left (a converted security guard) I decided to go out in a blaze of thelma and louise glory. I started preparing for a raid on the nuclear power plant when the fuzz came a knockin', I tried to cheese it but was captured. In the end I got an arch conservative judge, a conservative jury and with no cash left to hire a lawyer I tried defending myself. It went... poorly.
Velvet is now serving 27 years in prison for charges ranging from multiple kidnappings to arson.

She will be avenged!

All in all I would like to extend a thank you, and a damn you, to the creator behind this game.

You should've hired the ace liberal attorney, that guy can win even with all odds stacked against you.

"With no cash left to hire a lawyer"-part suggests that wasn't an option.

Anyways, keeping the police station closed down prevents sieges.

Oh, I didn't notice that part.

Shutting down the police only saves you for a bit, as soon as they're back up they will be hot on your heels again.

The police station isn't the only location that can siege.  In fact, police are probably the most prefered siegers, as you can sometimes surrender to them.  Everyone else kills you, surrender or not.

They're also the easiest to fight off. The military, however, will keep coming for you until you're finally dead, like you're Osama.

Only 4 groups can siege, correct? The police, military, fire department and CCS?

And hillbillies, though that's really rare.

He's not foolproof though, and comes with a chance of Hidden Fun Stuff... LCS-style!

I've only kept the police station closed this game and nobody has knocked on the door.

Ah well.

The police needs you to be on the most wanted list to siege you.
The military appears after you fought off the police at least once.
They send tanks next time if you fough them off again.
If the tanks aren't enough, they send jet bombers!!!

The fireman only siege if you publish the Liberal Guardian at C+ Free Speech law. It's not considered a crime to kill them while they siege you.
The CCS siege you randomly (but IIRC, you need to have at least some heat on your safehouse for it to happen). It is not a crime to kill them during a siege (they are freaking terrorists attacking you, so I guess it's self-defense!).
If you publish CIA files, the CIA will launch raids against you. It is not a crime to kill them during a siege (This operation never happened, so no CIA agents were killed by activists during their duty.)
The mercs raid you if you publish corporate files. Then again, they are criminals attacking you, so it's not like it's a crime to kill them, it's self-defense.

I don't know how you get the hillbillies to raid you. I published all the cable news and AM radio memos, and yet they never came.

BTW, can you surrender to the US Army? Or do they kill you?

The army is just a more serious version of the police, and you can get the military to siege you with jet bombers and tanks without ever facing the cops. It's just about how threatening they consider you to be. And yeah, you can surrender to them like you do with the police.

Also, I think killing the firemen is at least supposed to be criminal. They're a legal (although immoral) government agency. I do understand the CIA operation happening outside the bounds of normal legislation though - what are the chances of the Intelligence service reporting their failed operation to mere police forces?

I've been sieged by hillbillies once or twice in the past versions, but now that you mention it, not once in the latest one. It may be broken (or intentionally removed). Checking it would be in order.

I got a couple of hillbilly sieges in 4.04, after raiding the TV station I think. The first one killed everyone but my leader, who I think was in prison. Then they wait like 10 years outside my safehouse which I was released back to after serving my time. I don't know how I slipped past them to get inside, but I couldn't get out. I decided to surrender to them as I thought they would take me to the police, who would realize I have no rap sheet and release me. They killed me instead. :(

Maybe it's parasitic. It never loses its flavor because you eventually die from having your nutrients stolen by it.

Hmm, good to know that they aren't broken entirely at least. Thanks.

Thanks for the tips everyone, at the moment I am having fun with my second character which I started in the everything-is-arch-conservative mode. This time I am playing it as a "lone" hacker backed by a erhrmm.. Child prostitution ring... First I got two teenagers from the juice bar and then I free child laborers and bring them back to learn the trade, replacing the ones who get caught while the ones who manage to stick around for a while seem to never get caught anymore (I guess it is because their street sense is through the roof now?).

I am seeing alot more success in swaying peoples minds by hacking and publishing secrets than I did with kidnappings and murder (go figure). Still waiting for it all to come crashing down when the fuzz desides to bring the !FUN!.

I actually managed to meet that Super Prosecutor you talked about when I was using the ace attourney to defend my most profitable investment, the lawyer managed to beat him though. Some have not been so lucky though: Here is the story of Vonnita Leyden:

Vonnita was very young when her impoverished family sold her to the auto plant for a loaf of moldy bread and a pack of cigarettes, she worked her hands to the bones until she was nine, then one day a man named Ivan, clad in an expensive suit and brandishing a sword broke into the auto plant. He waved the sword about like a madman, destroying equipment and eventually he turned his eyes on Vonnita and a group of her friends. "Come with me, I will give you a life." he said. Vonnita quickly took him up on his offer.
Late that night they arrived at a run down warehouse, full to the brim with security and a sign out from claiming it was a Health Insurance company, "Gee" she thought, how fitting.
But all was not as it seemed and it did not take long until Vonnita joined the other teenagers and children walking the streets, servicing the monsters that claimed to be humans.
When Vonnita was ten she got caught in a sting operation by the police, at first she thought she was finally saved from Ivan but instead they had her stand trial in front of "A more conservative jury has never been seen" (or something to that extent). She got the death penalty.

So she went from Slave - Prostitute - Execution and she wasn't even a teen.
Damn this game can make you feel more horrible than even Dwarf Fortress.
