I would suggest caulking.
And you never need to apologize for something you're doing with no incentive, solely for other people's entertainment :)

I'm pretty sure if the wagon trains had been run as democracies, California would still belong to Mexicans :P

I'm ok with whatever move you want to make, motivated by whatever reason (finishing or hilarity.) I'm 20 years I don't think I've ever played a game of OT straight with the intent to finish. It's always been a race to see how many people survive with absolutely no regard for anyone's safety.

Seriously, Sensei's Oregan Trail playthrough was unexciting (sorry!) and dull, having one where you go along with the whims of the trolls and screw around trying to stack up challenge would be cool.

Cool. Haven't played OT since it was on an Apple IIe.

I'd say float it across. Some chance for misery but not too much. Plenty of chances for misery later!

Okay, we'll go with caulking. As Mephansteras says, there will be plenty of excitement down the road. No need to kill everyone off right at the start.

River crossed with no troubles, but food is very low now. Time to hunt! We're in a lovely meadow with plenty of deer. At 50 lbs of meat each, Urist takes down 4 and brings home the meat.

Whoops, looks like one of them was a runt. Oh well, this ought to hold us over for a while anyway.

Not one day down the trail and we hit good fortune! Looks like someone gave up early. Maybe they tried to ford the Kansas River and then the last remaining passenger died of Cholera? And apparently it was so long ago that the entire wagon has rotted away except for 2 of the wheels and some bullets. And no one else has passed this way since then.

But in true OT style, part of the abandoned wagon breaks while Monkey is hauling out the goods, and he slips and breaks his leg.

So what to do now? We've got a broken leg but we're only 83 miles to the Blue River crossing - shouldn't take more than a few days to get there. Should we rest now, or head to the crossing, keeping in mind that food on this side of the river will probably be scarce now that we've hunted once - but we can't hunt while we're at the crossing?

I think we'll be fine with a broken leg, considering the short distance left. Let's keep on rocking to the crossing!

Press on. Monkey is learning how to be an American the hard way.

We can use the wagon wheels to hold his leg in place while we move on.

While we're putting what we found in the old wagon to use, we could use the bullets... never mind.

We prop Monkey up in the corner of the wagon and carry on to the river. We make it without further incident.

Decision time again! We can rest for a few days and see if Monkey's leg heals, or we can cross straight away and keep on going. There's no ferry on this one, and the current conditions are:

Ford the river.

More seriously, caulk again. The broken leg isn't a very compelling reason to rest over.
