CurseLab! An ASCII Art Program in Beta.
« on: August 09, 2011, 02:00:29 pm »

So, I've been building my own configurable curses display library to emulate pdcurses in the Allegro Game Programming Library, and I recently decided to make a program rendered in ASCII as a test of its capabilities. The result is a program I like to call CurseLab!

The main goal was to build on the features of programs like ASCIIDraw and ASCIIPaint, making something closer to a full-featured paint program. The features so far include:
The program is feature-complete by my original goal and mostly bug-free, but there's sure to be some features I can add and more bugs to stomp. And so I ask for your comments and suggestions. Go on, try it!

Maybe it's parasitic. It never loses its flavor because you eventually die from having your nutrients stolen by it.

Which one would that be?

EDIT: I got it. It should work now, just download the newer version up top.

If the export to text works (not just spewing completely unrelated gibberish instead of walls, for example), this will be the best ASCII art program I've seen.

It... mostly works. .txt files don't seem to get along well with unicode.

Anyway, the download link should be stable now.

Issues:
You can't create a new file called "Untitled"
It crashes if you try to import a picture when there's one open.
I have no clue what "export to txt" is good for - it's just gibberish numbers.

Other than that, it works fine for me. Great program! It's fun and easy to use. One suggestion I have is to move the "change brush" from "ctrl+b" to a single button; it's the thing I used most, so that would make it a lot easier.

Thanks for this; good job!

Neat.

One suggestion: Make fill respect colour as well as symbol. I was using solid blocks of colour and if I tried to fill one colour then it would fill all others touching it ignoring their colour difference. This might be intentional of course.

There's no readme, and the only thing I can get it to do is move the cursor to a random location whenever I press space.
