Miscellaneous Weaponry
« on: August 08, 2011, 03:18:59 pm »

Do all miscellaneous objects share the same damage type when wielded as a weapon? i.e. is there a difference between hitting a Goblin third toe, left foot with a pink jade mortar and a severed elf tooth?

Also, what would determine the damage that you deal with a miscellaneous object?

(Outside of Misc. Object User skill and other attributes, of course.)

I believe damage relies on it's density and sharpness.  For example, the jade mortar would be better for blunt damage because of it's density, while the elf tooth would be better at slicing.  The goblin's toe wouldn't do much damage, as it isn't sharp or dense.

unless you throw it.  might get a lucky headshot.  easier with chunks larger than a toe.  i'd at least use a whole hand or foot.  the arm or leg is even better.  a corpse is best but they slow you down quite a bit.

Confirming different misc objects can interact differently.

Platinum left boots make excellent clubs. If I wasn't lazy I'd go find the most dense misc object possible. I suspect the Enormous Corkscrew might be quite decent if you could wield it properly. Most arrows are pretty good stabbers too. Nothing quite as satisfying as throwing your bow at the enemy and then stabbing them with your arrows.

For the densest blunt object: slade boulder! (through a bug, I think you can mine them sometimes in fortress mode)
For a stabbity weapon: slicing forks!
Personally, I use a ladle for a club.

Look at it this way:

It's not that hauling a dragon corpse with you slows your adventurer.
Instead, throwing dragon corpse is a special kind of attack which is not only devastatingly powerful but also gives you an enormous boost to your usual 130 speed!

I guess this would be a good place to ask this, on the topic of misc. objects. For adventure, would Misc object be the best skill for using a Pick?

Picks use hammer skill iirc.

So does that mean that murdering people with picks ups the mining skill then?

Christ, are you dwarves or are you elves? If you think Hell has too many demons, then youkill them till the population reaches an acceptable number.
Dwarf Fortress: So horrifying the players would rather talk about nice things, like Warhammer 40k.
