I figure at least 2-3 people with a point or two in crewman *should* be good enough, or we'll just have to hire and pay annoying NPCs to do it.

Err, I don't think my spider would let you pool your money so you could buy a huge mouth to feed and take care of on the ship. Common sense and stuff matey...  (She's so not sweeping up horse shit from the decks)

Besides, we don't know how big our first ship will be. If we just end up with a sloop, that's a 9 man ship... barely enough room for all of us and our stuff, let alone a massive horse.

Well, we could take a bigger ship if we did have the horse though. People don't tend to stand in the way of a charging horse, especially one with a goblin yelling profanities quite loudly at them...

Horses also need to graze or eat hay/grain. And while it would be a great amount of emergency meat, that's quite a bit of care and such needed for what amounts to a pet.

The only animal I would seriously consider for 'group funds' (individual bought pets are yours to do with what you will), would be a cat, to keep rats and pests from our food stores.

Also a few chickens for eggs. But a horse just needs huge amounts of food and water, trust me on that. And if a horse breaks a leg, it is useless. On a ship there isn't even any room for cavalry warfare and the decks are slippery.

Take it over in the dock or join a crew and start a mutiny?
