Problem:  I have a furnace operator who won't operate a furnace.  I have a furnace.  I have selected tasks in it.  No one else is there.  He has the furnace operator job selected and yet sits around with his thumb up his you-know-what with NoJob.  I've added and removed the job in his profile both manually and with the Therapist.  I've given him other jobs, which he will do.  I've waited.  I've even demolished and rebuilt the furnace.

Bonus Problem: I have a woodcutter who refused to not use the furnace.  He doesn't only use it, but he toddles down there to make charcoal from time to time--with Furnace Operator turned off!!!

What gives? Are these related?

On a more serious note, it sounds like a bug of some sort with therapist. I'd try closing and reopening therapist (and perhaps even the game if this does not work).

Actually, you want the Wood Burning labor. You're making charcoal, yes? Your woodcutter has wood burning activated and your furnace operator doesn't. It's under "Farming/Related," fifth one down.

Wood Burning labor is required for Wood Furnaces to make charcoal and ash.
Furnace Operator is the labor required for smelting metals and ores at a Smelter or Magma Smelter; as well as making pearlash and plaster at a Kiln.


Yes it is a bit confusing.
