First make sure you have hatches over the holes. Otherwise you can have Fun.

Then, designate a pit zone over the entire stockpile (make sure there is a hole reachable by every cage).

Create a zone (I), designate it a pit (p), use (P) to select what you want to dump.

My current fort has a dodge-fall trap in the main entrance, 13Z drop, and they not only die, they explode. 10Z is just about enough to cripple gobbos so you can feed them to your military to gain notable kills.
Personally, my animal pit(for the stuff that wanders into my cage traps) is only a 1Z drop, and I just fill it with weapon traps loaded with Spiked Wooden Balls and blunt weapons liberated from dead invaders. This way there's only ever 1 body part to butcher, and I can get extra teeth if I'm lucky.

Or just put some upright spear traps at the bottom. Or magma. Or magma, then water. Preferably a combination of all these.

so a 16 drop should make them go ker-SPLAT? I can't make it go any deeper since cave entrance is 1 more down ;-)

Yeah, for pitting captured invaders, spears would work, as long as you remove any and all armor before pitting, unless you feel like investing in a bunch of steel spears, a deeper fall without traps is cheaper.

Magma doesn't leave butcherable bodies, and water leaves mud everywere, but these are just personal preference more than anything. (and yes, my dorfs will eat anything that is organic and not dwarven. ANYTHING.)

From my own experience free-falling goblins achieve terminal velocity at about 12-z levels. I once built a 12-z execution tower, and channeled the bottom of it through all three caverns. I think the final drop was around 60-z levels. Sadly the resulting goblin-explosion wasn't any bigger than the initial 12-z drops, so no goblin heads flying half a screen or any fun stuff like that.
