Early Moonstone:
I have had an odd dream today; my first since re-aquiring corporeal form. It was of blood and death, of things wiggling admist dead dwarven corpses. Upon waking up, I inspected the underground defenses and found them lacking. I have seen fit to rectify this. I have also set the miners to scouting for ore to weaponize, and to constructing a quick surface trap, with a caged deer. Eventually I would like to make a false entry leading all the way down to just beneath the underground lake, to flood-trap any invaders...but I fear I lack the time.
Early Moonstone, second entry:
We have been assaulted. The beast is not me, but it is terrible to behold. A mutated sheep of some sort, spotted just as the dwarves were finishing the upper underground walls. I am glad they are complete. In the meantime, I feel odd. I was sick this morning.
Late Moonstone:
I was sick again this morning. I'm not sure why. I'm gaining weight. My body is gaining weight. It seems as if it were something I should remember, but cannot. Wait... <the entry ends>
<The entry resumes>
We have been attacked! A goblin master thief invaded the fortress. He has been slain, but at cost. One of our militia guard captains, an extremely skilled and capable warrior, has been slain. He did not even hit the man. The only reason we managed to stop him was because we were able to seal him inside while he was slaying the captain, and by the time the captain was dead the rest of the militia arrived. I was sick again this morning.
<Early Opal>
The ghosts of several dwarves have begun haunting the halls. I have had one of them put to rest, but the other refuses to lie quiet. He has been scaring many with his loose moans. Some have terrible dreams of him, dreams of foul things and death, and afterwards they leave for the ice, to stare out in the distance, only to return for occasional food and drink. I know not what he says to those to cause this madness, nor do any dare to ask.
<Mid Opal>
The doctor has told me that I am pregnant. Apparently I have been pregnant for some time. I...find this hard to deal with. It explains my emotions as of late. I....found myself rubbing my belly...this body's belly...contentedly. What is happening to me?
<Mid Opal>
Ambush! Goblins snuck in past our defenses, and decimated our guard. I had some warning of them, but my attempts to shut the inner keep doors only sealed the trade depot, incidentally slowing the guards. In the confusion, they were able to make it inside. Fortunately, we killed them, but with many losses amongst the peasantry.
<Early Obsidian>
Terror and death! My body has arrived. I know not what fell force still drives it forth, but it has besieged our underground gates, pacing around them, slathering and roaring. I cannot go near them, for I feel a strange attraction, a...stirring, when I do. I know not if it is the child, or something worse. When I do not concentrate. I find myself wandering down there, without thinking.
We will not open the gates.
<Early Granite>
I have given birth. It was a...painful experience, but full of joy. I look at the baby and I feel....I feel the work of hormones, I know, but I love it all the same. It is a fierce thing, and...and shortly after I gave birth, my body managed to make it into the fortress. I am not sure how. Perhaps it found a way to slither through something, or perhaps a ghost pulled a lever. But it made it in. The carnage was terrible and enduring. But my child, though newborn, managed to attack it, though I am not sure how a mere infant could do such. I am very proud. The battle still rages in the fortress below. I wonder if I will vanish when it is dead.
<Undated>
The battle has been raging for weeks. It has finally ended. The fortress is free, free from me. And I am free at last. I... have a most odd sensation when I look at the corpse, a sort of tingling. I get the uncanny sensation the infant is staring at me, sometimes. I dream often, but cannot remember the dreams.
<Undated>
We have been attacked by an ettin. It has been pounding on a dwarf for a very, very long time, but I do not want to open the gates, as our military has suffered heavy losses. I am hopeful regarding the trap I have constructed, however. I do not have time to worry about it; I need to nurse my baby.
<Undated>
Before the ettin could enter the trap, an army of goblins approached the fortress. We thought they had come to lay siege to us, but they instead marched on the Ettin, shouting cries of battle and joy. Apparently they chased it here, and we were only incidental, as hard as that is to believe. They have been fighting the ettin for some time, and the earth trembles with its steps.
The beast is done. Now, the goblins head for the trap. Soon they will all be entombed beneath the ice. I go to pull the....
*ink stains the diary*
I am not certain what happened. I found myself in the body of the infant, sucking at my own...well, I guess it was never my body, anyways. When I regained control, I found the goblins had entered the trap and left. Someone pulled the lever, but nothing happened, and noone seems to know why. But I am fine now, so I will begin constructing a fake entrance, trapped with an animal, and linked to a flood trap. I will pierce it from the underground, and then flood the invaders to death. I....
