Tame animal-men as workers?
« on: August 07, 2011, 01:57:52 am »

i was messing around with runesmith for funsies because i was bored, and decided to "tame" a few badger people. their socal skills have been raising as they've just been hanging around. i will take further testing to see if i can breed them like animals and yet keep them for cheap labor. anyone pull this off, felt like doing this at all?

People have been taming animal men for quite a while, yes. Tigermen mayors are popular.

Yeah, it's been going on since long back pre-2010. I've always been hoping for a way to get the lazy cunts to actually help out a little. Sure, they'll hunt and fish and make love with a chance of becoming mayor but they won't butcher or process those fish. You can't butcher sentient beings either, and they require food and water to stay alive so caging them to save fps or pasturing them is almost counterproductive.
Supposedly the friendship utility provided by DFusion should permit one to do what you're wanting, but I've failed to figure out how it works yet. The readme doesn't really help either. No operating instructions...

I have found that animal men can only do the following things:  Become mayors who don't give mandates, kill hostile creatures or get killed trying, and party.

trolls in goblin fortresses are the same.  though once i thought i saw a troll stoneworker installing a bed.  i'm not sure if the troll was just following the guy who really installed the bed, or if it actually did so itself.  i also think i saw a troll help with hauling.  it wasent consistant, but the troll was sure moving like it was hauling every now and again.

do animalmen come with civilian professions like trolls do?  perhaps, despite being livestock, non-player civs have labors enabled as if they were migrants (meaning the highest skilled labor toggled on, but usually everything off).

trolls do party though.  i bet they could be mayor, but goblins do not have such a position.
