So my fortress is currently under siege by two squadrons of gobbos on flying mounts supporting a squad of trolls. Literally EVERY goblin is on a flying mount. Has anyone had this happen to them before?

I haven't been attacked by a single flying mount yet, usually just horses and camels...

How are you off for crossbows, bolts and dwarves who can shoot straight? It doesn't take very many hits to cost a flier the ability to stay airborne, and gravity will do the rest.

Never used Dwarf Therapist, mods or tilesets in all the years I've been playing.
I think Toady's confusing interface better simulates the experience of a bunch of disorganised drunken dwarves running a fort.

Wow, that's really interesting!  What creatures are the mounts?  Are they building destroyers?

I've had entire squads of giant bat mounted goblins before.  Fairly common actually, in my experience.  Less common than cave croc mounts.  I've never even seen a beak dog in any game I've played, though they seem to be common based on what I've seen others mention.

This may be due to the fact that I tend to build my fortresses in temperate, non-evil biomes, with volcanos and rivers?

(Don't attempt to answer that.  Down that path lies ... well I was going to say madness but you all run towards madness as if it was made from chocolate and puppies.  Just forget I said anything.)

My last siege was mainly goblins on giant cave swallows. To be honest, they should've destroyed my Fort easily. I hadn't finished building my roof yet, and they had a way in. If it wasn't up to the flying pathing bugginess Bronzecalms would've been in ruins - they just hung around and left the actual sieging to foot troopers.

This will happen very often, if not every time, if your fort interior is ONLY accessible by a flying mount.

For instance, if completely wall off your fort, but there is no roof over it, the game will send flying mounts.

If you have a retractable bridge which will seal your fort completely when closed, but no roof, just keep the bridge open until the invaders come, then close it.  The game will usually send land units by default.

I've also noticed that if your fort is only accessible via water, the game will send amphibious units as well.

Hmmm, even if legends shows no one in the goblin civilization ever went into the underworld to tame the giant bats?  Or does that happen so often that every goblin civilization is pretty much guaranteed to have giant bats?

What if there IS no way into it? (IE: use DFHack to block all entrances w/ obsidian)

Then it's probably just random/land units.

I get GCS-mounted goblins frequently. Giant cave swallows, that is. Doesn't seem to make a difference where the entrance is - though it's generally been under a few layers of ground, so the cave swallows aren't going to help much there.

You don't really need DFhack to make an inaccessible fortress
