R&D

Urgh. I don't know about this, but I'm thinking no. The money isn't something to sneeze at, but it's certainly replaceable. The techs probably aren't too big a deal... but throwing in the trade goods, combined with the fact that I don't see this helping us that much, just makes it seem not worth it to me.

How far are we from actually researching medium and large scale building?  We really do need warships.

Looking back at the trade screen, I have mis-identified the techs I've been able to secure. We'd get Large-Scale Building, Superior Hulls, Xeno Trade Centers, and Space Defenses.

I'd really like a member of the Diplomatic Corps to weigh in, considering that this is their area of authority. Thankfully, this is not some special event that I can't save and quit for, so there's no real rush. Once a decision is reached I'll be able to load the game and continue.

EDIT: We are currently working on Advanced Hulls, the prereq for Medium scale hulls. Advanced Hulls will be finished in about 3 weeks, but I'm not sure how long Medium hulls will take. After that comes Superior Hulls and Large-scale hulls.

Which means we can get the ship tech faster if we take the deal.

Medium hulls are usually not that hard to research. They'll be a solid chunk, but probably not one of the hideously expensive ones.

I guess the next question is what trade goods do we have again? Once the genie's out of the bottle it can't go back in, so we need to think really hard about what we're willing to give up for faster research times. And this is coming from a member of R&D, remember.

i'm r&d to!
and as long as it's not something which would reduce our influence/research speed, it's fine.
Sure, if we give them pop-growing materials, they might end up gaining influence, but being a minor civ, they won't go out of their planet.

No, I'm talking about the fact that they can then (according to Sirus) trade them to whoever else they like. I don't care about giving them higher pop growth or whatever, I care about giving them the ability to give everyone else higher pop growth or whatever.

let's trade, then, since they are a minor civ, let's raze them to the ground until nothing remains.
easy as pie.

Yeah, I don't see why we couldn't curb-stomp them afterward. The war with the Kryss wil leave us with a large military. Letting those ships idle would be a waste of resources.

I'd say go with the deal, get medium hull, and produce the NRDL on that chassis.

What's the point of going for the deal if we wouldn't be using the large hulls, though?

Eventually, we'll probably design a new ship using large hulls, and then it would be useful.  I agree for now, we ( for now ) don't have a proper ship design using any large hulls, but you have to admit, it could come in handy in the future.

I thought large-scale building was for well, buildings. So, the deal will give us the two tech after medium hulls, but not medium hulls themselves? Well, let us large hulls then.

You could always give them Mars.  It's not like they'd be able to hold it.

Actually, thet's an idea. Is there any downside to selling Mars repeatedly for monies To other races?

For major races, I don't really see a problem with Sheb's idea other than losing a valuable shipbuilding world (for awhile).

However, since minor races are usually confined to their homeworld, which is impossible to influence...not sure how colonies of minor races work, since I've never seen one.
